It wouldn’t be right to end the year without one last dark chocolate vomit session 🍫🤢

The lovely Murphy popped in to remind us all that:
1️⃣ Dark chocolate is not festive
2️⃣ Poor life choices are immediately regretted
3️⃣ The vet floor is apparently very comfortable 😅

You can see poor Murphy here recovering from his decisions, with Nurse Grace providing top-tier moral support 🥰

The good news? Murphy is feeling much better and heading home…hopefully to start the new year making slightly wiser choices 😂🐾

🔔 Reminder
We are closed from 12pm for the rest of today and tomorrow, and back open as normal on Friday 2nd January 😀

🫀 A brave little heart, and a big fight ahead 🐾

This is Ailsa ❤️‍🩹
Just 1 year old, full of terrier mischief, and completely adored by her family, and by us!

A few weeks ago, her family noticed subtle changes… a cough, tiring more easily. Then suddenly, Ailsa became critically unwell and struggled to breathe. After urgent investigations, she was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition called mitral valve dysplasia, which has already progressed to congestive heart failure.

In simple terms: Ailsa was born with a faulty heart valve, and her heart is working far harder than it should.

After careful discussions between her family and cardiology specialists, a huge decision has been made.

➡️ Ailsa is being placed on the list for open-heart mitral valve repair in England, performed using cardiopulmonary bypass (a heart–lung machine).
This is the most advanced surgical option currently available in the UK and offers her the best chance of significantly improving both her quality and length of life.

For dogs who are suitable and undergo a successful repair, life expectancy is often measured in years rather than months, with many returning to a near-normal quality of life. Without surgery, severe heart disease like this is sadly life-limiting once heart failure has developed.

Before surgery can go ahead, Ailsa will undergo specialist imaging scans in January to assess her heart in detail and confirm she’s a suitable candidate. If those scans give the green light, the plan is to move forward with surgery as soon as possible.

This isn’t an easy road.
It’s a major operation.
And it is emotionally and financially daunting.

But Ailsa is young. She’s strong. And she deserves the chance to live the full, joyful life she hasn’t yet had the opportunity to experience.

💪🐶 Team Ailsa!!

👀 “Hello… HELLO!” 👀

Oscar, the very chatty African grey, popped into our Saintfield clinic this week to see Vet Lauren and Nurse Kathryn 🦜
He was in for a nail clip and beak trim, and provided a full running commentary from start to finish!

Clever, confident, and full of personality… we’re pretty sure he enjoyed being the centre of attention 🤔💬
