🐾 PLEASE HELP US KEEP APPOINTMENTS RUNNING ON TIME! ⏰

At Mead Veterinary Centre, every consultation is carefully scheduled to ensure that each pet receives the time, attention and care they deserve. Our standard consultations are just 15 minutes, so even a small delay can have a knock-on effect throughout the day⏰

Being late can mean:
🐾 Less time for your pet’s consultation
🐾 Delays for other patients waiting to be seen
🐾 Increased stress for pets, owners and our team
🐾 A knock-on effect for procedures, surgeries and urgent cases

What should you do if you’re going to be late? 📞

Please call us as soon as you know you’re going to be late. Depending on how late you are, we may need to rearrange your appointment for another date or time.

If you know in advance that you won’t be able to make your appointment, please let us know. Your appointment could then be offered to another pet who may be in need of veterinary care. ❤️

We completely understand that sometimes delays are unavoidable, and emergencies and unexpected circumstances happen. Please just keep us informed so we can do our best to accommodate you.

🐾 TRAVELLING TO THE EU WITH YOUR PET?

What you need to know (Updated August 2026)

✈️ Before you travel, make sure your pet has:

✅ A microchip
Your pet must be microchipped before their rabies vaccination.

💉 A valid rabies vaccination
Your pet must have a current rabies vaccination. If it’s their first vaccine, you’ll need to wait 21 days before travelling.

📄 An Animal Health Certificate (AHC)
NEW FOR 2026: If you are a Great Britain resident, EU Pet Passports are no longer accepted for travel into the EU, even if they were issued before. You will now need a new Animal Health Certificate for every trip to the EU. AHCs must be issued by an Official Veterinarian no more than 10 days before travel.

🐶 Travelling back to Great Britain?

Dogs (including assistance dogs) must receive a tapeworm treatment from a vet 24–120 hours (1–5 days) before returning to Great Britain (unless travelling directly from Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway).

📅 Plan ahead!

• Book your rabies vaccination well in advance.
• Arrange your Animal Health Certificate early.
• Check the rules for your destination country, as some have additional requirements.

We completely understand that waiting when your pet is unwell can be worrying and frustrating. However, as a 24-hour Accident & Emergency veterinary practice, we work in the same way as a human A&E department.

Every shift, we can receive unexpected life-threatening emergencies that require immediate treatment. When this happens, pets who are clinically stable may experience a longer wait while our team focuses on those whose lives are at immediate risk.

A delayed appointment doesn’t mean your pet isn’t important – it means another patient needs urgent, life-saving care.

Our vets and nurses are committed to providing the very best care for every patient, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We kindly ask for your patience, understanding and respect, even during the busiest times.

Please remember: if your pet is well enough to wait, that is something to be thankful for. It means they are stable while we care for those in the most critical need.

☀️❄️ Keep Your Pets Cool This Summer with Frozen Enrichment! ❄️☀️

As temperatures remain hot, it’s important to help our pets stay comfortable, hydrated, and mentally stimulated. Frozen enrichment is a simple and fun way to keep your pets cool while providing an engaging activity they’ll love!😋👅

🐶 Dogs – Frozen Kongs, ice treats, or frozen broth can provide hours of enrichment.

🐱 Cats – Frozen lick mats or small frozen treats can encourage natural foraging behaviours.

🐰 Rabbits – Frozen herb-infused water treats and chilled vegetables can help them beat the heat.

🐹 Guinea Pigs – Frozen slices of pet-safe vegetables make a refreshing summer snack.

⚠️ Remember: Heat stroke can develop quickly and can be life-threatening, so keep your pets cool is very important!

Top tips to help prevent heat stroke:
💧 Always provide fresh, cool water
🌳 Ensure access to shade and well-ventilated areas
🚶 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day
🚗 Never leave pets in a car, even for a few minutes
👀 Watch for signs of overheating such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse
