Just look at gorgeous Stanley 😍. He’s an older boy, with Pawprints to Freedom - Our Safe Haven Kennels, Cheshire in Nantwich, patiently waiting for a new home.
He was a good boy, even though he wasn’t keen on all the nail clipping and blow drying malarkey.

Did you know…

There is a law in the Uk regarding transporting dogs.

Dogs have to be ‘suitably restrained’ in the car. That can be either a crate, seatbelt clip, or a dog guard when they are in the boot.

I bet not everyone knew that 😉

Have you ever made dog ice cream?

We tried it at the weekend and it’s very easy.

All you need is:

🐾 some moulds (or ice cube trays)
🐾 1 banana
🐾 yoghurt
🐾 dog safe peanut butter (without xylitol)

Mix everything together and freeze

Your dog will tank you

Btw, these are meant to be sausage dog shapes 😂

Last weekend another one of my customers passed away 😔 it’s horrible, and this year seems worse for it then any other. So I was glad to do 3 puppy introductions in the last few days. Puppys always brighten your day ☺️🥰

Today I’d like to talk about the oldies ❤️

As a doggroomer, I see all sort of dogs on a daily basis. I might start of with a puppy introduction and the next client can be a 16 year old dog. As both will have very different energy and needs, it’s important to adjust accordingly.

Having 2 oldies at home, I might be a bit biased to the older dogs. They have something relaxing about them.

Some people say that their dog became grumpy with age. But we all get ailments with age, I always try to remember that. If I lift a leg and the dog growls or even snaps, my first thought is -is that painful? There might be arthritis etc.

There are many changes:

🐾With age, the coat will change. It might look thinner, or more greasy.

🐾 painful joins

🐾Lumps and bumps might appear.

🐾Wounds don’t heal as quickly.

🐾 Eyesight gets worse

🐾 teeth problems

🐾 hearing is worse

I just try to adjust my grooms to what the dog needs. If they can’t see well anymore and therefore struggle to stand on the table, I’ll groom them on the floor. If they can’t stand for a long time, they can sit down. If their teeth are painful, they might not like the face being brushed or held.

The groom might not win 1st in crufts but my priority is to keep the dog as comfortable as possible. Welfare over vanity.

A bit of an icky subject:

Ticks 🕷

It’s Tick season, so just a reminder that these little bloodsuckers are out, looking for a host.

What can you do?
🐾 check your dog over after a walk (especially under ears and armpits, those warm cosy places…)
🐾 use tick treatment regularly from your vet

If you happen to find one on your dog, remove it with a tick twister or tweezers.

They can carry Lyme disease, so it’s important to keep an eye on your dog in the next few days.

Our Story

I’m offering dog grooming, with vegan shampoos on a one on one basis. No crates or cage dryers. I groom in a calm salon, with a holistic approach, which suits even nervous dogs. In some cases I like to use Reiki or T-Touch to help the dogs relax and be happy while in my care.

With over 16 years experience, I also offer dog walking in the Crewe area, including Wistaston and Willaston. Group walks or one on one walks are possible.

Last but not least I also offer petsitting. If you go on holiday and prefer your pet being looked after in the comfort of their own home, that can be arranged. This mainly suits Rabbits, guinea pigs, cats etc. but please contact me for any inquiries.
