Let me start by saying, this post is not to point fingers but comes from a point of concern. My Peanut struggles with his weight, so I thought it might help some of you to talk about this topic...
🐾 Is Your Dog Carrying a Few Extra Pounds? 🐾
We all love treating our furry friends, but did you know overweight dogs are at higher risk of:
🫀 Heart disease and high blood pressure
🦴 Joint pain and arthritis
🩺 Diabetes and breathing problems
⏳ Shorter lifespan and reduced quality of life
It's easy to get into a cycle once your dog puts on a bit of weight, he'll stop running around as much and will lie down or sit more. The weight might cause joint pain which again will slow him down further and that again will make him put on more weight etc.
How to Keep Your Dog Healthy & Happy:
Portion control – Follow feeding guidelines and avoid over-treating. And make sure to use the right food for your dogs energy level. (i.e. If you have a senior dog, use senior food, as it's lower in calories)
Daily exercise – Walks, playtime, or even gentle swimming.
Healthy treats – Swap high-calorie snacks for carrot sticks or apple slices (no seeds!).
Regular vet check-ups – Monitor weight and overall health.
A healthy weight means more energy, more playtime, and more years together. ❤️
Let’s keep those tails wagging for as long as possible! 🐶✨
I know it's easier said then done. Pic of my Peanut with his big belly 😉
