🚨 URGENT APPEAL FOR SHEEP GRAZING 🚨

We desperately need your help.

Every summer, our 27 elderly and disabled resident sheep at Bella’s Halfway Home are lucky enough to graze a wonderful 3-acre field. The field has natural shelter and has been perfect for our flock during the warmer months.

Recently it has been used for a charity event, with the field being used for event parking. Unfortunately, we were given no warning that the field would be cut so heavily beforehand, and we returned to find that the grazing had been mowed down to the point that there is now virtually nothing left for our sheep to eat.

We are now facing a genuine emergency.

Our sheep have very little grazing available, and we urgently need to find alternative land as soon as possible. We are looking for a field suitable for 27 sheep within approximately 30 minutes of Chichester, although we would travel up to an hour for the right location.

Unfortunately, moving them onto our winter grazing is not an option. The winter field currently contains seasonal poisonous plants that must die back before the sheep can safely use it. Likewise, this field cannot be used in winter because it becomes too wet and shelters are not permitted there. This means we are caught between two unsuitable options and are running out of time.

We are more than happy to pay monthly rent for suitable grazing. Our sheep are well cared for, well behaved, and we can provide references if required.

To be completely honest, we’re in a bit of a panic. We never expected to find ourselves in this position and are now desperately trying to secure somewhere safe for our flock before the situation becomes critical.

Please, if you own land, know someone who does, or have any suggestions at all, get in touch. Even sharing this post could help us reach the person who can save the day for our sheep.

Please share, comment, tag local farmers, smallholders, landowners, equestrian centres, or anyone who may be able to help. The power of this community has helped us so many times before, and we’re hoping it can do so again.

Thank you from all of us at Bella’s Halfway Home and especially from 27 sheep who are depending on the kindness of our community. ❤️🐑

Hey everyone! Please read!
We just wanted to reach out to all of you amazing hen adopters! At Bella’s Halfway Home Rescue, we absolutely love seeing the ex-farm hens you’ve rehomed from us. When you apply, we ask for a couple of things: a photo of your hen setup, your contact details, and the address where the hens will be kept.

We know this might seem like a lot, but it’s just to keep them safe. We keep these details on file for 2 years, just in case DEFRA ever needs them. Don’t worry we don’t share them with anyone, and it’s all about data protection. We also ask for a setup picture because we want to make sure the hens have a safe, secure home nothing fancy, just a clean, predator-proof space, with fresh bedding, good water, and feeder, simple basic chicken care. We’re not being nosy we just want to make sure every hen is well looked after.

And for those of you who have already adopted from us please, we’d LOVE to hear how your hens are doing! Pop a comment below, share how they’re getting on, and let us know your experience with us. We can’t wait to see their progress! 💛🐓

Don’t forget to get the reservations in for our rehoming day on the 18th of July, THANK YOU 🧡

Monday blues have set in 💙

Today, we are reflecting on what has been one of our most successful and heartwarming chicken rescues to date, and we simply wanted to take a moment to say thank you.

Because of the kindness, dedication and compassion of so many incredible people, over 1,100 hens have been given a second chance at life. Alongside them, 10 wonderful cockerels have also found their way into loving new homes where they will be cherished and cared for.

We still have a small number of hens remaining, and we are currently working through recent enquiries to help them find their forever homes too. But before we move forward, we want to pause and recognise the incredible community effort that made this rescue possible.

First and foremost, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Emma at The Chronicles. Thank you for working alongside us, supporting this rescue, helping spread the word, and sharing our vision that every hen deserves the chance to live beyond commercial farming. Your support has been invaluable.

We would also like to thank Rupert. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to rescue these hens and save them from slaughter. We are incredibly grateful for your cooperation throughout the process and for the care you provided to the birds during their time within the farming industry. The excellent condition of the hens when they arrived did not go unnoticed, and it made a tremendous difference as they began their journeys into retirement.

To every single person who came forward to rehome hens, thank you. Whether you collected a few birds or welcomed a larger flock into your family, you have changed lives. Every hen that left with a new family left with a future. Thank you also to everyone who donated, shared our posts, encouraged others to get involved, and continues to support both the hens and our rescue. Your generosity allows us to keep doing what we do.

To our incredible volunteers, there simply are not enough words.

Thank you to those who stood shoulder to shoulder with us on rescue day, entering the barns, carefully handling the hens, loading carriers, organising collections, answering questions, and working tirelessly to ensure the birds were moved safely and efficiently.

At the same time, we want to recognise the volunteers who remained behind at the sanctuary. Whilst many of us were focused on the rescue, you stepped up to ensure every other animal in our care continued to receive the love, attention, food, water and daily care they needed. Rescues like this are only possible because there are people quietly working behind the scenes, and we are endlessly grateful for each and every one of you.

This rescue felt truly special. In just an hour and a half, we successfully crated and saved an incredible number of hens. Everything came together in a way that reminded us just how amazing this community really is. We experienced only two or three collection noshows, which is remarkable when we would normally expect between 15 and 20. That level of commitment speaks volumes about the people who support our work.

The reality is that none of this happens because of one person. It happens because hundreds of people choose compassion. It happens because volunteers give up their time, because supporters donate what they can, because families open their homes, because partners work alongside us, and because people believe that these hens deserve a chance.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Thank you for helping the hens.

Thank you for helping Bella’s Halfway Home Rescue.

Thank you for believing that every life matters.

Together, we have given more than 1,100 hens and 10 cockerels the opportunity to experience safety, freedom, kindness and love. That is something every single person involved should be proud of.

With love and gratitude,

The Team at Bella’s Halfway Home Rescue ❤️🐔Every hen rescued is proof that compassion can change a life 🧡
