A little something lovely for this Sunday 🥹💛

Our lovely Fiona, who volunteers with us every Friday, is doing a 10K sponsored run for Bella’s Half Way Home this weekend 🏃‍♀️

She is such a huge help to us anyway, so for her to then go and do this as well just means so much. She sees first hand how much goes into keeping the rescue going and how quickly the bills add up, and she really wants to raise as much as she can for the animals.

We are completely non-profit, so every donation really does go straight back into the rescue feed, bedding, vet bills, medication and all of the boring-but-important things that keep everything running.

If anyone can spare even £1 or £2 to sponsor her, we would be so grateful. It all adds up so much quicker than people think, especially for a little rescue like ours 💛

And if you can’t donate, a share would honestly help just as much.

We’ll be posting little updates throughout Sunday so you can all see how she’s getting on 🥹

Good luck Fiona!! We are all behind you and so grateful for everything you do for us 💛🐑🐔🐷

Goodbye our sweet Poppy 💔🐐

I honestly don’t really know how to write this one because Poppy was so, so loved. She was one of those animals who just made Bella’s Half Way Home what it is, and she was probably one of the animals who gave us the most laughs.

Poppy was just… Poppy 😂

She would headbutt absolutely anything she could. Fences, buckets, gates, people if you weren’t paying enough attention 😂 She would snort and blow raspberries at anyone new who came over to say hello, and then suddenly she’d be jumping and bounding around the field like a little puppy.

She was an absolute pain in the bum sometimes and we loved every single bit of her for it.

Over the last few months we had noticed our girl slowing down. She was getting older, she’d been through a very harsh winter and a harsh summer, and she just wasn’t quite as full of beans as she used to be.

But this morning at half past eight, Poppy was still happily munching away.

Then at around nine o’clock she was found lying down, fast asleep. She had simply gone to sleep and never woke back up.

And as absolutely heartbroken as we are, there is some comfort in knowing that she doesn’t appear to have suffered. She was eating, she lay herself down, and our beautiful girl just quietly went to sleep. 💔

I will never ever forget when she first came to us. I was lying in the field sunbathing with my sunglasses on when I suddenly felt this warm air on my forehead. Before I even had chance to work out what was happening… DUFF. 😂

My sunglasses were broken, the lens had popped straight out and there was Poppy, looking completely pleased with herself.

And honestly, we never told her off. You couldn’t. That was just Poppy.

She broke things. She headbutted fences. She caused chaos. She made us swear. She made us laugh until we cried.

And we would take every single broken fence, every broken pair of sunglasses and every bit of chaos all over again in a heartbeat if it meant we got to have her back.

Even on the days when everything felt rubbish, when we were tired, sad, stressed and really couldn’t be bothered with Poppy and her dramatic behaviour… there she was. And somehow she would make you laugh anyway.

That is what I’m going to miss so much.

Her poor sister Fifi is going to miss her terribly too. We will do absolutely everything we can to make sure Fifi and Millie are happy and have each other, but there is going to be a huge Poppy-shaped hole here now.

She was loved. Properly, completely loved. By us, by our volunteers and by so many of you who have followed her life here.

I think this little quote sums our girl up perfectly:

“How lucky are we to have loved someone who makes saying goodbye so hard.” 🤍

Because that’s exactly it.

The pain of losing her is horrible, but I wouldn’t swap one second of having her here to avoid feeling it.

Thank you Poppy, for the laughs, the headbutts, the raspberries, the broken fences, the chaos and all of the memories.

We would do it all again.

Every. Single. Bit.

Sleep tight our beautiful, ridiculous girl.

Rest in peace Poppy. You really were one of a kind. 💔🌈🐐

Afternoon all we are in urgent need of two auto doors for our coops to make the morning shift run smoother and so the birds can get out first light, if anyone has an older one they aren’t using we would be super grateful !

We are also looking for 2 smaller sheds or large coops to seperate some of our duck and goose flock ready for winter so they have fresh ground to scratch around on and enable us to keep the birds healthy.

Any support would be much appreciated thank you!

Mary Lamb! 🐑❤️ Our newest little member…

Unfortunately little Mary arrived at probably one of the worst times 🙃 while our lamb flock have been poorly she’s had to be isolated from them, but she had no companions of her own kind and really needed a safe place to stay… so of course, here she is ☺️❤️

Touch wood 🤞🏼 the lamb flock do seem to be responding well to the antibiotics and we are seeing improvements, but we definitely aren’t completely out of the woods yet 😫 It seems to be really catching up with our smallest little Soay ram lamb Muntjack, his cough is still so persistent and he’s the one we’re keeping the closest eye on at the moment. They are all still on antibiotics and we will be ordering another bottle for them along with more pain relief to keep everyone comfortable… all while we wait for the dreaded vet invoice to arrive 🙃

We honestly cannot thank everyone enough for the help we’ve already received. many of you have donated, shared and supported us and it has made such a huge difference. ❤️ We really, really don’t want our continued pleas for help to take away from just how grateful we are because without the donations we’ve already had, we would be in a much scarier position right now.

But unfortunately we do still need help 😫❤️

The dry spell has absolutely hammered us as well. With hardly anything left on the ground for the animals, our feed bill is currently in excess of £200 EVERY WEEK, before we even think about medication, vet bills, rent and everything else that keeps the rescue running.

It’s just one of those times where everything seems to come at once 🙃 poorly lambs, medication, vet visits, feed disappearing at an unbelievable rate… and then little Mary needing somewhere to go. But we couldn’t turn her away when she had nobody of her own kind and needed somewhere safe. ❤️

So if anyone can spare even £1 towards the animals, we would be so incredibly grateful. Lots of little donations genuinely do make a massive difference to us. And if you’ve already donated, THANK YOU. Please don’t ever think we don’t see it or appreciate it because every single donation is helping us keep their bellies full and get these poorly little lambs through this. 🥹❤️

For now please keep everything crossed for little Muntjack 🤞🏼 and welcome our little mad Mary lamb 🐑❤️

Thank you, as always, for keeping us going. We genuinely couldn’t do it without you. ❤️
