🐾 💜A huge milestone for Luna 🐾
This beautiful girl has just completed her first full groom with me after multiple introductory and trust-building sessions 💛
Luna is a reactive and very sensitive dog who found grooming extremely overwhelming, so rather than pushing straight into a full groom, we slowed everything right down and worked at her pace. No rushing. No forcing. No “just get it done.”
Through consistency, patience, positive reinforcement, consent-based handling, and allowing Luna to communicate when she needed breaks, she gradually began to feel safer and more comfortable with the process. She also coped with an hour commute to me each time.
Dogs like Luna are exactly why I believe grooming should be welfare-led, emotionally aware, and adapted to the individual dog in front of us. This may not be perfect aesthetically, but the main thing is she is happy.
I’m incredibly proud of her 💛

🏆Really pleased to have been named Dog Grooming Company of the Year at The Prestige Awards🏅
“What stood out to the judges was Fearless Fur’s holistic approach to grooming. Julia Wood’s work focuses on creating a calm, positive experience for every dog, particularly those who may feel nervous or stressed. Her background in canine communication and behaviour, combined with one-to-one mobile grooming, provides a level of care that goes far beyond a standard grooming appointment.
Fearless Fur is a great example of how compassion, patience and expertise can transform the grooming experience for dogs and their owners alike”.
Thank you to all my amazing clients for being part of my journey. Here’s to raising the standard of dog grooming - where humanity comes before vanity 💜

An important public consultation that it is important you have a say in here

🚨 THIS COULD CHANGE HOW YOUR PET IS CARED FOR 🚨

Pet owners & local dog professionals — this is IMPORTANT.

The government is proposing changes to the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966)… and it doesn’t just affect vets.

⚠️ It could impact the support you rely on for your dog.

Depending on how this is rolled out, there are real concerns that holistic and complementary practitioners could face tighter restrictions — or be pushed out altogether.

This includes:
🐾 Canine nutritionists
🐾 Behaviourists & trainers
🐾 Physiotherapists & rehab therapists
🐾 Hydrotherapists
🐾 Massage therapists
🐾 Herbalists
🐾 Homeopaths

These are the very people many of us turn to for:
✔️ Preventative care
✔️ Behaviour support
✔️ Rehabilitation
✔️ Natural and diet-based approaches

📣 This is a public consultation — which means YOU can have a say.

If pet owners and small professionals stay quiet, decisions could be made without reflecting what’s actually happening on the ground.

⏳ Deadline: 25th March (5pm) — not long left.

Let’s make sure this doesn’t become something we wish we’d spoken up about.

🐾 Pet owners AND pet professionals need to be heard.

📻Well that was surreal… I was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live this afternoon about dog grooming! 🤭🎙️
Today it was announced that dog grooming has been added to the UK’s “basket of goods” used to measure inflation, alongside things like houmous, zero-alcohol beer and croissants!
The basket is created by the Office for National Statistics and contains over 750 items that represent what people in Britain are actually spending money on. Each year it’s updated to reflect changing habits and lifestyles – and this year dog grooming made the list😃
It’s fantastic to see grooming being recognised not just as a luxury, but as an important part of responsible pet care. For many breeds, regular grooming is essential for health, comfort and welfare, helping to prevent painful matting, skin problems and overgrown nails.
Our pets play such an important role in our lives, and it’s lovely to see that reflected in national statistics.
I was invited onto BBC Radio 5 Live to talk about how the industry has grown, how costs have changed, and why grooming is more important than ever.
As someone running a small mobile grooming business, it felt pretty special to be able to speak about the work we do and the importance of keeping dogs comfortable, healthy and happy.
A slightly surreal moment talking about dog grooming on national radio! 🐾
Did anyone happen to hear it? 🐕 thanks for having me

‼️I don’t watch Crufts — out of principle. The stories coming out of this year’s show are hard to ignore‼️
The overall winner’s handler has a past conviction for causing unnecessary suffering to a dog. We’re told it was “25 years ago” and an “isolated incident”. Maybe so — but it does raise a serious question: should the most prestigious dog show in the UK really be rewarding someone with that history?
Alongside that, there are numerous reports from people attending of rough handling in the ring, questionable training advice being broadcast on national TV, and dogs clearly under pressure — yet still being placed.
Then there are the enormous grooming halls — rows upon rows of dogs being prepped for hours to meet a cosmetic ideal. Anyone who has spent time in those halls knows how hot, crowded and overwhelming they can become — not exactly an environment many dogs would choose to spend hours in while waiting to be brushed, sprayed and prepared for the ring.
Let’s not even start on the inbreeding, forced caesareans and dogs being bred for profit.
As a professional groomer, I’m always looking at things through the lens of the dog’s welfare. The subtle stress signals dogs show — lip licking, yawning, avoidance — are often overlooked when the focus is on presentation and winning.
It’s also worth remembering that the RSPCA has previously criticised the welfare issues linked to pedigree showing, and the BBC stopped broadcasting Crufts in 2008 following concerns raised about the health of dogs being bred and shown.
We’re constantly told this event celebrates dogs. But looking at what actually goes on behind the scenes, it’s fair to ask: is this really about dogs… or about winning?
I’d be really interested to hear from anyone who has attended or worked at Crufts — what has your experience been?
