Abandoned in the heat...
During this week's 'hottest day of the year', a 33 degree heatwave, two young rabbits were heartbreakingly discovered dumped in a field here in Bristol. The bunnies were left to fend for themselves in dangerously high temperatures and no shade to shelter in.
Thanks to the quick actions of one of our wonderful bonders who spotted a post on her local area's social media (first image in this post), both rabbits were caught and brought to safety. The young boy is being cared for by our wonderful bonder until we have space in the rescue, while the female, now named Cupcake (as she is so sweet!), came into our care as soon it became clear the pair were an unneutered male and female.
Cupcake was in a very vulnerable state on arrival. Severely underweight and suffering from an upper respiratory infection, her condition was exacerbated by the extreme heat. She was far too unwell to undergo an emergency spay, so our immediate focus has been on stabilising her and supporting her recovery. The vet confirmed at her visit that she is also around 2-3 weeks pregnant so babies are due very soon.
Weβre happy to say that Cupcake is now safe and comfortable indoors, munching away and resting in an air-conditioned room while she receives ongoing care and treatment.
As Cupcake regains her strength, we anticipate the arrival of baby bunnies in the near future. They will all require vaccinations, neutering, and time in foster care before they are ready for new homes.
If you are able to support Cupcake and her babies, any donation will make a real difference to their care and Cupcake's recovery.

The kindness of our supporters helps us provide safety and a second chance to rabbits like Cupcake when they need it most.
We are so grateful to everyone involved in the bunnies' rescue and care and weβll continue to share updates as her journey unfolds. π°
