ADULTS - MAKE SOME YOU 🕰️ TIME

🐴 Horses have a special way of making everything feel a little better. 💚

Spending time around horses can help reduce stress, improve confidence, encourage mindfulness, and give us the chance to switch off from the pressures of everyday life. Whether you're mucking out, grooming, or simply enjoying their company, horses have an incredible ability to help us feel calmer, happier, and more connected.

Sometimes the best therapy has four legs and a kind heart. 🐴✨

🐴YOU DON’T HAVE TO RIDE A HORSE TO BENEFIT FROM BEING AROUND ONE…

Sometimes the best thing you can do with a horse is simply spend time together.

New research into human–horse interactions has been exploring what actually happens when we stand quietly with a horse or gently stroke them.

A recent study found that horses showed an increase in oxytocin, a hormone associated with social bonding, after simply standing with a person and after gentle rubbing. At the same time, there was no significant increase in cortisol, the hormone associated with stress.

It is a fascinating reminder that our relationship with horses isn’t just about riding.

It’s about:
✨ Building trust
✨ Learning to communicate
✨ Being present in the moment
✨ Developing confidence
✨ Creating meaningful connections
✨ And simply enjoying the company of another living being

At Cannington Equestrian Centre, we believe there is enormous value in time spent with horses — whether that’s riding, grooming, leading, caring for them, learning about them or simply standing quietly beside them.

And importantly, good horsemanship means making sure the interaction works for both horse and human. Horses should be given the opportunity to communicate, have choice where possible, and have their welfare put first.

Because sometimes you don’t need to sit in the saddle to have a really meaningful experience with a horse…

Sometimes, just being together is enough.

📚 Based on research published in Animals (2025): The Effects of Human–Horse Interactions on Oxytocin and Cortisol Levels in Humans and Horses.
