🌟 Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Meet Debs 🌟

Debs has been volunteering and fostering with Dogs Trust Bridgend since 2021. After adopting five Dogs Trust dogs over the years, she began helping out around the centre before moving into fostering.

Since then, Debs has welcomed an incredible 53 foster dogs into her home. She particularly enjoys supporting dogs who need a little extra care.

We caught up with Debs to find out more about her volunteering journey.

🐾 What inspired you to become a foster carer?
"We'd adopted five dogs from Dogs Trust over the years. Fostering was a lovely way to continue helping dogs on their journey to finding a home."

🐾 Are there any dogs that have really stayed with you?
"The first foster dog we had was a 13-year-old Jack Russell called Bruce. We completely fell in love with him!"

🐾 What have you enjoyed most about fostering?
"It's been lovely getting to know the different breeds and their personalities."

Meet Bear 🐻💛🐾

Bear is a sweet and affectionate 2-year-old Dachshund looking for a calm and understanding home.

This lovely lad forms strong bonds with his favourite people and loves nothing more than spending time by their side, whether that's heading out for a gentle stroll, relaxing on the sofa, or simply keeping them company 🏡

Bear can be a little sensitive around new people and experiences, so he's looking for patient adopters who will help him build confidence at his own pace. Once he feels safe and settled, his loyal and loving personality really shines ✨

House trained, great in the car and partial to a cuddle, Bear could be the perfect companion for someone willing to give him the time and understanding he deserves 💛

🌟 Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Meet Heather 🌟

Heather has been volunteering as a dog walker at Dogs Trust Bridgend for over 14 years. A lifelong dog lover, she joined the team after retiring and has spent more than a decade helping dogs enjoy walks, enrichment and companionship.

We caught up with Heather to find out more about her volunteering journey.

🐾 What inspired you to volunteer at Dogs Trust?
"I retired, I'd lost my husband, and I loved dogs. I just chose Dogs Trust."

🐾 Is there a memorable moment that stands out?
"There was one dog who'd been with us for quite a long time. A couple in Jersey saw a video of him and travelled over to adopt him."

🐾 Do you have a favourite dog or breed?
"There are too many to name. I love them all."

Hank is a sweet, sensitive boy looking for an active home where he can enjoy long walks, new adventures, and plenty of sunny spots to relax in 💛

This handsome lad loves exploring, travelling in the car, and playing with his favourite toys. He's an independent chap who enjoys affection on his own terms and will happily come to you for a cuddle when he's ready.

Hank may prefer to be the only dog in the home, but enjoys having doggy friends out and about on his walks.

🌟 It's Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who help make Dogs Trust Bridgend such a special place for our dogs, visitors and staff.

Meet Robin, one of our fantastic Volunteer Gardeners. Robin first joined Dogs Trust as a dog walker after retiring.

Nearly two years on, he continues to volunteer his time helping care for the grounds and keeping the centre looking its best for everyone who visits.

We caught up with Robin to find out more about his volunteering journey and what he enjoys most about being part of the Dogs Trust team 👉

🐾 What inspired you to volunteer at Dogs Trust, Robin?
"I started off as a dog walker when I retired. I love dogs."

🐾 What do you enjoy about volunteering here?
"I enjoy it up here. It's a lovely place, and I wanted to help keep it looking its best."

🐾 Any memorable moments?
"There was a chocolate Lab called Hercules. He was strong! He towed me round the field!"

🐾 Do you have a favourite breed?
"Probably a Welsh Border Collie. I had two as a youngster."

Introducing Reggie 🐶💛

Reggie is a sweet 8-year-old Chihuahua looking for a calm, cosy home where he can enjoy the simple comforts in life - soft blankets, gentle cuddles and plenty of companionship.

He can be a little sensitive in new situations, so he needs patient adopters who will let him settle at his own pace. Once comfortable, Reggie is affectionate and loves being close to his people.

He enjoys short, gentle walks and pottering in the garden, with lots of cosy nap spots in between 💤

Reggie would prefer a peaceful adult-only home and could potentially live with a calm dog following introductions.

Baby is a lively little terrier looking for an active, loving home where he can enjoy walks, toys and cuddles.

He loves exploring on sniffy walks and playing with squeaky toys, but can be a little nervous in new situations, so he needs patient adopters to help him build confidence.

Once settled, Baby is affectionate, playful and enjoys relaxing with his people after his adventures.

After a half term heat wave, the Porthcawl Wombles have had a busy week cleaning up after what was left behind at our local Coney Beach, our beach super heroes! 🦸‍♀️

There were many towels left behind each day too, and so in the spirit of recycling and working together, the lovely volunteer wombles donated the towels for us to use whilst cleaning and for drying off our dogs after their summer pool adventures or baths 🐶

Thank you very much to all involved and for looking after our local beach 🏖️
