Hereโs the thing, itโs never just about how hot it feels outside. Humidity plays a huge part too, and it makes a big difference to how your dog copes on a walk ๐ถ
Dogs cool themselves down by panting they breathe out warm air and let moisture evaporate from their tongue and lungs, but when the air is humid, itโs already full of moisture. That evaporation canโt happen properly, so they canโt cool down. Even a warm, sticky day that feels okay to us can leave them struggling, and overheating or heatstroke can happen really fast, often before you even realise thereโs a problem.

The higher that number goes, the harder it is for your dog to stay cool โ so keep an eye on it every day.

โข Walk before 8am or after 8pm โ the ground and air are much cooler
โข Test the pavement with the back of your hand: if itโs too hot for you, itโs too hot for their paws
โข Always ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ฅ, ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ก ๐ฐ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ โ not freezing cold. Cold water is refreshing, but icy water can upset their tummy or make it harder for their body to regulate temperature when theyโre warm.
