Unfortunately we’ve had a deceased cat handed in at our Hartlepool branch. Found Headland area. We are unable to reach the owner registered on her microchip. If you think this may be your cat please contact us on 01429 275003.

At Bridge Vets, we care deeply about the long-term health of your pets and today we want to talk about something many dog owners don’t know enough about: Pyometra.

🩺 What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a severe infection of the uterus that affects unspayed female dogs, often occurring in middle-aged or older dogs (but any age can be affected)
It can come on suddenly and without warning, and if left untreated, it can be fatal.

Signs of Pyometra:
Lethargy
Vomiting
Increased thirst and urination
Swollen belly
Vaginal discharge (though not always present)
Loss of appetite

The best prevention is spaying your dog. Not only does spaying eliminate the risk of pyometra, but it also prevents unwanted pregnancies and reduces the risk of certain cancers.

Many cases of pyometra require emergency surgery, often at a much higher risk (and cost) than a routine spay procedure done early in life.

If your dog is unspayed and you’re unsure what the next step should be, we’re here to help. Give us a call and we will be happy to answer your questions and talk about the safest option for your pet 💘

🐾 Meet Jasper, our happy boy! 🐾

Here at Bridge Vets Middlesbrough, we have the pleasure of seeing Jasper every month and he’s always happy to see us all (especially his favourite vet, Miro)
Over the years, Jasper has faced multiple health challenges:
🦴 Bilateral hip replacements
🦿 A knee replacement
🩺 Arthritis and kidney disease
📈 Ongoing management of high blood pressure, including regular BP checks

Despite it all, Jasper remains full of life, love, and tail wags. He’s living proof that with the right care, dogs can thrive even with multiple long-term conditions.
💚 We’re so proud to be part of his journey and inspired by his resilience every time he visits. Jaspers owner sent us some lovely photos of him enjoying his holiday in the lakes recently, doing what every spaniel does best 🐶

We see plenty of adorable puppy posts on Facebook, but what about our seniors?

Just like us, our pets needs change as they age. Whether you share your home with a senior dog, cat, or other furry friend, Bridge Veterinary Group is here to support their comfort, health, and happiness in their golden years. 💛

✨ Pain Management
Arthritis, mobility issues, and chronic conditions can affect older pets but they don’t have to live in pain. We offer gentle, effective pain management tailored to your pet’s specific needs.
🥦 Diet & Nutrition
Senior pets often require a new approach to nutrition. From joint-supporting supplements to kidney-friendly diets, we’ll help you make informed choices to keep them thriving.
⚖️ Weight Management
Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for aging pets, especially to reduce strain on joints and internal organs. We’ll work with you to monitor their weight and adjust feeding routines as needed.
🌈 Quality of Life Assessments
Your pet’s comfort and dignity matter. We’re here to help you recognize signs of aging and make the best decisions for their well-being, whether that means changes in care or simply making their days more enjoyable.
If your pet is around 7 years or older, now is a great time to schedule a senior wellness exam. 🐶🐱❤️

📞 Call us at either Middlesbrough, Hartlepool or Billingham to schedule their check up 🙂

Stick Awareness! A Lesson from Brock 🐾

Everyone meet our silly boy Brock who recently had a scary accident that we never saw coming.

Brock unfortunately chewed a stick just wrong and it ended up piercing his tongue. Thankfully, after a trip to ourselves and procedure he’s on the mend, but this could’ve been so much worse.

🪵 Sticks might seem harmless, but they can cause serious injuries:
✔️ Punctured tongues, mouths, and throats
✔️ Splinters lodged in gums or lungs
✔️ Infections and abscesses
✔️ Even life-threatening internal injuries

Brock is tough and healing well, but his owners are switching to safe, dog-friendly toys from now on!

Please share to help spread stick safety awareness. If it can happen to Brock, it can happen to any pup. Let's protect our four-legged family members! 🐶❤️
