This card is a talisman of loneliness and, right now, the Universe needs you to keep your own company and learn to be self-sufficient and happy with it.
We are all, ultimately, alone. Like it or not, we are solo creatures, navigating life using our own tools, values and energy. This is something we all have to acknowledge, face and get comfortable with. No one is going to rescue you, make it all happen for you, or show you the next step every time.
If you don't prioritize yourself and write your own 'show', you will end up as a supporting cast member in someone else's play!
When this card appears, it's a message to retreat and withdraw from the hustle and bustle of the world and to spend some time with me, myself and I. Why? It might be to reflect on a situation and gain insight into your true role and behaviour (and maybe face some home truths about your character). It could be to achieve something meaningful, which requires solitude and focus, or a signal to study and learn.
Alternatively, it might be a call to rest and recuperate - emotionally or physically.
But you need to be alone, and you need to take yourself and your life seriously, because YOU are IT.
If the Hermit represents a person in your reading, they could be a Virgo, which is the star sign linked to this card. It's possible that they are older than you and represent a source of wisdom and insight. Perhaps this person is a link back to the world as you ruminate in your self-imposed sanctuary.
Maybe they are a valuable confidant, a mirror to reflect back the truths you need to uncover. Perhaps they are really the inner, wiser version of yourself, waiting to emerge, ready to lead you forwards.
Traditionally, the Hermit card shows an old man leaning on a stick, holding a lantern in front of him to see his way. The light of the lantern symbolizes the enlightenment ahead and, because it is held in his left hand, it shows that this shadowy path through the unknown, towards self-awareness, comes largely through one's own intuition.
