Booster for your Brachy?

With the recent heatwave, we at Parc Vetcare are working hard to try and keep things cool and stress free for pets and their owners.

We know that added heat stress for elderly cats and dogs and brachycephalic breeds can be a real challenge which is why we are pleased to advise there are a limited number of routine evening appointments available, with priority given to those pets who are at risk of heat stress.

We have a friendly nursing team who will take down your information and pet’s recent history while you wait either in the waiting room or outside in the cooler areas if appropriate, so that the actual appointment time in the clinic is reduced.

If you need flea or worming treatments or other medications, let us know in advance so we can have these ready for you.

The appointments are strictly limited and subject to emergencies taking priority as always.

Don’t let the heat stress them out - give us a call to see how we can help and enjoy that sunshine!

☀️ warm weather incoming ☀️

As the weather is due heat up this week 🥵 let’s keep our furry friends cool 😎

Dog heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency 🚨

☀️Early signs ☀️

• Heavy panting

• Drooling- salivation often becoming thick, sticky or foamy.

• Restlessness

• Bright red or pale gums

☀️ Later signs ☀️

• Vomiting

• Diarrhoea

• Unsteadiness

• Collapse

• Seizures

Because a dog’s internal cooling system isn’t highly efficient, they are very susceptible to overheating 🥵 To help them stay safe the following methods can be used-

• Provide cool environments - cool rooms / shady spots 😎

• Use damp towels and fans - wet ears and paws with lukewarm or cool water 🪭

• Offer frozen treats - add ice to water bowls 🧊

• Adjust walking times - early morning/ late evening 🚶🏻🐕

🐝 Happy World Bee Day 🐝

World bee day shines a light on the habitat of pollinators to improve the conditions for their survival. So that bees and other pollinators may survive. 🫶🏼

🐝 Bee Facts 🐝

• Essential pollinators - Bees are responsible for pollinating 75% of the world’s crops and one third of the food we consume.

• Incredible workers - A single honeybee can visit between 50-100 flowers 🌷 during one reconnaissance flight.

• Complex senses - Bees have five eyes, can recognise human faces, and possesses a sense of smell 100 times more sensitive than humans.

🐝 Bee First Aid 🐝⛑️

• If a bee looks tired- Gently pick up with a leaf or paper and place it somewhere it won’t get harmed such as a flower.

• Feed a bee sugar and water - Simply mix sugar and warm water. Place a few drops below where they have been placed, you should see their long tongue extended into the mixture.

🖤💛🐝🍯 Big thank you bees! 🖤💛🐝🍯

Without our Registered Veterinary Nurses we simply wouldn’t be the practice we are 💙

You may see them at admit and discharge but that’s only the tip of the iceberg 🧊🐾

Behind the scenes they are anaesthetists, radiographers, lab technicians, pharmacists, ward nurses, phlebotomists and so much more. All the while giving your pets the love, care and reassurance every paw step of the way 🐶😻

Thank you to our incredible RVNs for everything you do, seen and unseen

🦔 Hedgehogs 🦔

Thought to be one of the oldest mammals on earth. Sadly, they are on the IUCN’S red list ☹️, meaning that their numbers are in decline.

Did you know new research by scientists from the University of Oxford (2026) studying the hearing of hedgehogs found that they can hear well into the ultrasound range like bats 🦇.

🦔 Hedgehogs - Can hear up to 85khz

🐕 Dogs - Can hear up to 45khz

🚶‍♀️Humans - Can hear up to 20khz

These findings suggest that ultrasound technology could be used to protect hedgehogs from everyday dangers, it might be possible to develop the following-

• Ultrasound road safety devices
• Vehicle based repellers
• Garden strimmers and lawn movers with ultrasonic deterrents

What if I find a hedgehog ? 🦔

If a hedgehog is happy, nocturnal, and moving fast please leave it alone 🙏🏻

If you see one in the day, it might likely be sick, injured, or orphaned and might need help.

🤲🏻 Handling - Put on gardening gloves and gently pick up and place in a high sided cardboard box 📦

🌡️ Keeping warm - Hot water bottle ( wrapped in a towel) ensuring the hedgehog can move away from it.

💦 Food/water - Offer a shallow dish of water (no milk) and some meaty cat or dog food.

📱Contact- Local vets, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society or Anglesey Hedgehog Rescue for advice.

Let’s all do our bit to help these beautiful animals 🦔💪🏼

We just wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful clients 🤗

Since starting up our own independent out-of-hours service, we’ve been overwhelmed by the kind words, support, and positive response from our registered clients, and non registered clients - it truly means so much to us.

Did you know that we have a dedicated vet and nurse on site 24/7? This means that if your pet needs to stay with us, they are never alone at the practice and always have someone there to monitor, comfort, and care for them.

We also have separate day and night teams, allowing our staff to stay fresh, focused, and able to provide the very best care at all hours of the day and night.

Thank you again for trusting us with your beloved pets. We’re so proud to be here for you and your furry family members - whenever you need us 🐾🥰
