It's the time of year again where dogs like to run through the long grass and often pick up those pesky grass seeds!

How can grass seeds affect my dog?

Grass seeds are like tiny arrowheads that can get caught in your dogโ€™s paws, eyes or ears and is an extremely common problem during the summer months, especially in breeds with hairy ears and feet such as Cockapoos and Spaniels. They will get stuck in your petโ€™s coat and can then pe*****te the skin.

To help prevent grass seeds getting stuck, you can trim the fur on your pet's paws and around their ears, check your dog for grass seeds routinely following a walk, and avoid meadows and woodlands where these grasses commonly grow.

Young Wilf pictured here is a repeat offender and we see him at least once a year! He loves to chase rabbits through the long grass and, on this occasion, the rabbit ran into a corn field - and that's all it takes! He had to have a light sedation to remove the offending grass seed and was up and about in no time.
