🌈 💔🐾RTA🐾💔 🌈

We have been notified of two cats involved in RTA today.

💔The first, Barbieston Ave, Drongan, is a grey and white cat - not microchipped. The body is safe and will be collected as soon as we are able.

💔This little one’s body has now been returned to her devastated owners by officers from Police Scotland. Thank you to the kind person who lifted the cat and took her to the Police Station. You saved this from being a lot more awful than it already is. She was killed at her own front door. A tragic and unavoidable accident.💔
(The second, Hillfoot Rd, junction with Pine Brae area, is a small grey and white fluffy cat, hit around 12 noon. The cat was reported to have been deceased in the middle of the road, but the body was nowhere to be found 15 minutes later. Was the cat stunned and has moved itself? If this is the case, we need people to check their gardens, urgently! Or was it lifted by someone? We suspect that we know who this cat is and her owners have been out looking; she is microchipped. If you saw this cat and either moved it somewhere or have taken it for safe-keeping before taking it to a vet, please let us know, asap.) Thanks, N

🐾Thanks for all the enquiries! We’ll work through these and be in touch with everyone. Kitten season isn’t over yet… Thistle❤️🐾

Thistle is an 8 week old bundle of cuteness! He’s looking for a new home with an existing ‘cat friendly’ resident cat or dog for company or an owner who is at home a lot. He’d be great company for a family with sensible school age children. He’s 1st vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and good to go! His 2nd vaccination is paid for and his neutering will be paid for at 16 weeks, the Cats Protection recommended age for neutering. His adoption fee is £120. Please pm with interest. Thanks, N

The decent thing…💔

We had a very sad fatality this week and some people just didn’t do the decent thing. We know it can be very traumatic for the driver. Cats are small and slight compared to cars, they move fast and appear from nowhere. Dark coloured cats and dark Autumn and Winter nights make it worse. Accidentally hitting the cat is mostly unavoidable, and no-one is looking to apportion blame in these situations. What upsets owners most is the actions taken afterwards or the lack of closure. Never knowing is always worse than finding out what happened.

If you hit a cat and the outcome is fatal, don’t leave it on the road - at the very least move it to the verge, and let us, or any other rescue, know. Ideally, if possible, take it to any local vet, where it will be scanned and held until, hopefully, an owner is located. We know you might be on the school run or have the dogs in the car, so come back and check. Never post graphic photos on social media for the owner to, potentially, see, but do take a photo of identifying features, such as a collar, or distinctive markings. Check carefully that the cat has died, before leaving it. Make a note of where the body was left. Don’t hide the body, by putting it under a hedge or throwing it into waste ground. Don’t just drive away. Knock doors…it probably lives nearby. People usually know the cats in their neighbourhood.

If you hit a cat and it’s still alive, please take it to a local vet. Or knock doors and ask for help, if you are unable to do this yourself. Administer basic first aid, if you can, such as wrapping the cat to keep it warm.

If the cat runs off, make a note of the direction, house numbers, the street, and a description of the cat, and let us, or another rescue, know or post some information on local social media pages.

If you see a cat being hit by a car, stop and help, and if you come across a cat, that has been hit by a car and killed, the above also applies. Please don’t just drive or walk past.

Please, always think about the fact, that more often than not, the cat is someone’s family pet, and even if it’s a stray or a farm cat, it doesn’t cost anything to show a little compassion and do the decent thing.

💔🐾The little one’s body has been found and he is back with his family who are devastated. Our thoughts are with them🐾💔

We have been told that a black cat was involved in an RTA outside The Secret Garden coffee shop between Doonfoot and Alloway at 7.15am yesterday morning. We understand that the cat was ‘being seen to’ by the lady who hit it, but have no further information. Was it lifted? Was it taken to a vet? Was it let go? This is quite possibly a little ex-Cats Protection cat, who lives in the area, and who has gone missing on the same timeline. He is microchipped and can be handed in to any local vet at no cost, where he will be scanned and held until owners can be informed. The owners would like to be sure of what happened and are not looking to apportion any blame. Please contact us, in confidence, with any information. Not knowing is a horrible feeling… Please share. Thanks, N

This cat is hanging around the recycling plant in the above area, and we’d like to know if it has a home nearby. Not yet s*xed or scanned for a microchip. Please share and let us know. Thanks, N

FLOWER
Stunning young Flower is seeking a special home. 2 year old Flower came into our care as an abandoned mum, and after raising her 6 kittens beautifully, she now deserves a loving, tranquil home of her own. Flower has only ever lived in a rural setting, so we'd like to find her another rural home or one on the edge of a village/town. As she's a gentle, shy cat who's likely to hide away until she feels confident to approach, an experienced adult family who can be around for her would suit Flower best and she may take some comfort from living with another calm cat. This cat has been hanging around the above location for around a month - not yet confirmed what s*x or whether it’s microchipped as the cat is quite unapproachable. Please share and let us know. Thanks, N
