🐾 GOT A DOG WHO NEEDS A REFRESHER? 🐾

Do you have an excitable adolescent who needs some extra training, or an adult dog who's forgotten their manners a bit? Our 5-week Life Skill Classes are for you.

Starting Wednesday 16th September at Prestwick Cricket Club, 7:30–8:30pm, this course is open to all dogs over 6 months — any breed welcome. Each week we focus on one theme, building real, practical skills you'll use every day.

📋 What we cover:
🐾 Week 1 — Focus
🐾 Week 2 — Loose Lead Walking
🐾 Week 3 — Impulse Control
🐾 Week 4 — Recall
🐾 Week 5 — Scent Work & Mantrailing

We keep classes small — just 4 dogs per class — so you get real hands-on support every week.

A fab evening session in a busy busy Rozelle. But the dogs absolutely smashed it! Special shout out to Buddy, only 10 months old and trying it out for the first time taking in all in his stride and loved it!

🐾 CALLING ALL PUPPIES! 🐾

Our next 5-week Puppy Foundation Course kicks off Wednesday 16th September at Prestwick Cricket Club, 6:30–7:30pm — and we've got a few spots left!

What a great session this morning with 6 teams 🤯 some really good moments from everyone, absolutely love seeing their progress ❤️🐾🐾

I also love how everyone came together for wee Freddie, he finds car journeys very scary atm but enjoys his trailing, so we changed the venue so Harry could walk Freddie over. And then everyone was making sure he got all the cuddles and were helping with holding him so he didn’t need to go in the car. Really love then that happens, thanks everyone for your help 🥰

Boundary games

The easiest dog training you'll ever do: doing it while you do the dishes 🐾

Boundary games (aka "place" training) teach your dog to stay on their bed while you go about your day — no extra time carved out, no separate training sessions. You're already at the sink. Use it.

Here's how:

1️⃣ Start small. Send your dog to their bed, and the second they're on it, reward. Every few seconds at first — you want them to realize "bed = jackpot."

2️⃣ Stretch the gaps. Once they're staying put, space rewards out: every 10 seconds, then 30, then a full minute. Dishes take a while — perfect training window.

3️⃣ Add duration, not distance (yet). Keep doing your task nearby before you start moving further away. Consistency builds the "stay" muscle before you test it.

4️⃣ Release with a word. End every rep with a clear release cue ("okay!", "free!") so they learn the boundary holds until you say otherwise — not until they get bored.

5️⃣ Repeat daily, no extra effort. Dishes, folding laundry, making coffee — any few minutes you're already standing still is a free training rep.

The magic: you're not adding a task to your day, you're turning a task you already do into training. A few weeks of dish-time reps and your dog will default to their bed the second the water runs.

This is fantastic for velcro dogs — the ones who follow you from room to room — or dogs with separation struggles. It teaches them that staying put (even while you move around and stay busy) is safe and still gets rewarded, building their confidence to settle without needing to be glued to you.

What a great afternoon/evening to be out with the teams. We finally made it to our favourite venue that the humans and the dogs love, so we did some extra tricky bits to really progress all the teams. And they all did amazing! Well done everyone, proud of you all!

It was a warm day, so we relocated to a shaded spot by the river, with parking under the trees and easy water access to keep the dogs cool throughout the session. Given the heat, long trails weren't practical, so we increased difficulty instead: novelty scent articles placed on unfamiliar walls, and a heavily contaminated scent article.

The dogs absolutely smashed it!! The first trail, scent on surfaces none of them had worked before, was handled with ease. We then raised the difficulty further by combining an article from a previous missing person with fresh scent layered on top. Top dogs, top teams, well done everyone 💪🏻💪🏻

We were one dog down yesterday so that meant we could do some longer trails. And the doggos didn’t disappoint 🥰 smashing all their trails. Well done everyone 💪🏻🐾🐾
