Sorry for the spam of posts - please read.

I can’t believe I am writing this but I can no longer take on any more new dogs who require Saturday appointments!

As most of you know I only work 2 Saturdays a month (or try to only do this🥲) , but I do work Mon - Fri also. I also have my second job Mon - Fri afternoons. I am currently burning the candle at both ends and as it stands I think I’ve had 3 Saturdays off since the beginning of April. I always do my best to try & fit everyone in, but currently my Saturdays are booked up so far in advance it wouldn’t be fair for me to accept any new clients that only have free time to bring their dogs on Saturdays! I am happy to recommend other groomers that may have capacity for this.

I am so greatful to be in this position and it’s you guys that have allowed me to be here so thank you so much to all of you!🩵

I still have capacity to accept new clients for Mon - Fri appointments at this time but with the way things are going I don’t know how long for 🥹🩵

Greatful for all of my lovely clients who keep me going I wouldn’t be here without you all🐾

Love always Kelsey x

This is Cody.. 🩵

Cody’s owners contacted me a few months ago to see if I could groom him. They explained he is a very anxious and over excited dog and that Cody’s previous groomer had struggled to get his grooms finished (which there is nothing wrong with & sometimes the safest thing to do for both dog & groomer is stop when it becomes too much regardless of what the dog looks like)

The main issue they were facing with his grooming sessions was his continuous barking through the process. When Cody first came to me I couldn’t hold a conversation with his owners without him barking continuously through it. The important thing to note is not all anxious dogs display their behaviour with aggression but through other smaller signs. It is my job to pick up on these signs and allow dogs breaks as and when needed & also adjust to their needs. I have worked alongside Cody’s owners since October last year to try and build Cody’s confidence up and show him that grooming can be made into a more positive experience. I cannot take all of the credit because Cody’s family have been amazing and consistent with holding their end of the bargain up. They keep him on a 5 weekly schedule, they listen to my advice & implement it at home or when coming to his appointments with me⭐️

I am so proud of how far he has come, he is like a different dog when he comes to me now. (He literally rushes through the gate with excitement) We have implemented strict grooming routines and even do his grooms in split parts to make sure we continue to grow his confidence and make him feel as relaxed as we possibly can. On Thursday Cody came to me for his most recent appointment. I think he let out 2/3 barks the whole time I had him in. He also used to struggle massively with his head/ face and front legs being groomed. As you can see from the photos, Cody’s groom is not perfect however he has come a long way & he now lets me get to his legs & face/ head area with lots of verbal reassurance (and some treats) of course🤣!!

This boy is just going from strength to strength & I am so proud to have watched this all unfold. Cody has also taught me things which I will be forever greatful for🩵🐾

This is why choosing the best dog groomer for your dogs needs & sticking with them is essential.

Well done Mr Cody I can’t wait to see you grow even more! 💛🩵

🌡️ HOT WEATHER GROOMING ADVICE FROM B**A 🌡️
As temperatures soar above 30°C, B**A urges all professional dog groomers to take extra precautions to keep both pets and themselves safe and comfortable in the grooming salon. Working in hot conditions can increase the risk of heat stress, dehydration, and equipment overheating. Here are essential tips to help you stay cool and groom responsibly:

🔧 Equipment & Tools
Use cooler dryer settings: Avoid high heat when drying. Instead, opt for a low or cool setting and increase airflow where possible. Take breaks between drying sessions if needed.

-Oil clipper blades frequently: Clipper blades can heat up quickly. Apply clipper oil every 10–15 minutes to reduce friction and heat build-up.

-Disinfect & cool blades: Use blade sprays that clean, cool, and sanitise between grooms. Have a backup blade ready to swap if one gets too hot.

-Check tool temperature: Test blades and dryers on your forearm regularly to ensure they’re not too warm for the dog’s skin.

💧 Salon & Environment
Keep the grooming room well-ventilated: Open windows and use fans or air conditioning where possible. Avoid direct sunlight on grooming tables and stainless steel baths.

-Hydration is vital: Keep fresh water accessible at all times for both dogs and staff. Shorten grooming appointments where appropriate to reduce heat exposure.

-Use cooling mats or damp towels: Place them on grooming tables or in holding areas to provide dogs with a place to cool down.

-Mist sprays or cool flannels: A gentle water mist or damp cloth on the paws and belly can help regulate a dog’s temperature.

🐾 Dog Welfare
Recognise signs of heat stress: Excessive panting, drooling, disorientation, or vomiting require immediate attention. Stop grooming and cool the dog gently.

-Adapt the groom: Consider lighter trims or postpone full grooms if dogs appear distressed. Welfare must come before aesthetics.

-Prioritise vulnerable breeds: Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, double-coated dogs, elderly dogs, and those with medical conditions are especially sensitive to heat. Groom them early in the day or reschedule if necessary.

👩‍🔧 Groomer Wellbeing
Stay hydrated and take regular breaks. Use cooling wristbands or wear breathable grooming wear to stay more comfortable.

Don’t suffer in silence. If your workspace becomes too hot to operate safely, consider adjusting your schedule or hours temporarily.

B**A is committed to promoting best practices in the grooming industry. In extreme temperatures, your professional judgment and care make all the difference.

💬 Stay cool, stay safe — and always put welfare first.
