When it comes to sterilization, there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Today, pet owners have several options available, including traditional spay and neuter procedures as well as advanced alternatives for certain dogs. The right choice depends on your pet’s age, breed, lifestyle, health history, and long-term wellness goals.

At Midtown Veterinary Hospital, our team will help you understand the benefits and considerations of each option so you can make an informed decision for your pet.

📞 Contact us to schedule a consultation and discuss the best option for your companion.

Disclaimer: Individual recommendations vary by patient. Not all sterilization procedures are appropriate for every pet. A veterinary consultation is required to determine the most suitable option.

Sometimes, acting before symptoms appear can make all the difference.

Artemis’s owner saw him swallow two expanding toys and brought him in right away. X-rays confirmed the toys were in the stomach, and they were safely removed using endoscopy before they could expand further and cause more serious complications.

Endoscopy is often performed at specialty hospitals, making it a valuable option when foreign objects can be removed without surgery.

A love letter to Burnside Road East
It's been a good ride so far on Burnside Road East.

When we opened Midtown, we chose this stretch of road intentionally. Central enough to serve families from Tillicum, the Gorge, View Royal, and Saanich without anyone having to drive through downtown. Close to Cuthbert Holmes Park and the Galloping Goose. The kind of neighbourhood where neighbours still say hi on the sidewalk.

Being locally owned and operated isn't a tagline for us. It's how we think about every decision. Longer evening hours because that's what working families need. Sunday openings because pets don't stick to a weekday schedule. A team that's part of this community.

Thanks for making us part of yours: (778) 775-8387 or midtownvets.ca.

Victoria doesn't get the heat waves the Fraser Valley sees, but May and June still catch a lot of island families off guard.

A few things worth knowing before the weather turns:

• Pavement along Douglas Street and Blanshard can become hot enough to burn paw pads well before the air feels hot
• Parked cars can reach dangerous temperatures within minutes, even with windows cracked
• Flat-faced dogs, senior pets, and thick-coated pets can experience heat stress faster than others

Morning and evening walks, shaded routes through the Gorge or Swan Lake, and fresh water throughout the day can help keep pets comfortable heading into summer.

If you have concerns about heat safety or signs of overheating, our team is here to help.
