It’s time to introduce LILY.
Lily arrived in Victoria exactly one month ago.
She is one of three siblings that flew on the same flight. The litter of four pups was abandoned on a remote country road in January. This is what we have learned about her so far:
Very loving with people she knows.
Playful with dogs she knows or after unknown dog initiates play.
Not very vocal.
Leery of new people.
Nervous on walks but improving.
Not for a home with children.
Fine in home with a confident dog.
Unsure of cats.
Crate trained, and fine left for a couple of hours.

Lily may look like a large dog in the ohotos but she only weighs 15 kilos.

It has been seven months since Laika arrived in Victoria from Guanajuato. She has made incredible progress but still no applications. One day I received an email that made my heart jump in a good way. It was from a previous adopter couple that I know are made for those special needs dogs.
So, today, after having a few visits at their house I left Laika with them to start her trial period. Thank you Kelli and Alex and their dogs

I think about this every day. Watch the full video of this guy I just discovered. Very thoughtful.

This guy came up on my feed a while ago. He's got some great videos, but this one hit hard. This is a question I ask myself every day, especially when I see people walking their dogs while staring at their phones or letting them run wild at a dog park as they chat and drink their coffee, with absolutely no interaction with their dogs, as if they are to entertain themselves. It is heartbreaking. Their dogs want and deserve so much more.

Chula is now nicely installed at Just Another Weedpatch on Gabriola Island with super fosters Jeff and Sonja. Their Mex-Can dogs Lita and Tulip with show her the ropes around the farm. However, Chula is such an easygoing dog she would fit in almost anywhere.
Many, many thanks to my neighbour Elaine for walking and exercising Chula while she was in Victoria for the initial two weeks. It was a huge help and made the transition much easier.

CHULA is a spayed female weighing approximately 12 kilos and is 1-1.5 years of age. Actual breed mix is unknown.

Meet the lovely happy-go-lucky Chula who is looking for an active home that can fulfill her exercise needs. She loves, loves, loves to play with other dogs. She would make a great companion for a jogger or hiker. She has proven to be a very social dog with all humans and other dogs. Is a very fast runner, is agile, and loves to play and will chase a ball. She is probably, however, too rambunctious for small children and she would not do well with cats in the home. She could easily live with another dog in the home. Chula is a well adjusted dog that was rescued as a very young puppy and had the good fortune of growing into adulthood in the home of a local rescuer before she moved over to the Mex-Can shelter for adoption. Despite being what we think is a possible Husky mix, she is a perfect size at around 28 pounds. A fenced yard is a must.

WELCOME HOME, CUCA. Officially adopted by the fantastic Genny, Gord and Michael, Cuca joins and is getting some guidance from their other two dogs, Sunny (also from Mex-Can) and Zoey. What a great outcome for this fortunate pup, from a dusty road outside of Guanajuato city to the lap of love in beautiful Victoria, B.C. Canada.💓🇨🇦

Things are going well so far. Mora ( now Osita) is slowly adjusting to her home in Vancouver with Shawn and Jill Cuca has definitely made herself comfortable at Genny and Gord’s in foster. Lili is still super shy, we’ll take it slow with her. Chula is a social butterfly and has won over everyone’s heart. Have a potential home trial for her.

All checked in with Aeromexico at MEX and heading for Vancouver for a very early pickup and drive/ferry to Victoria.
Could not have been done without our chauffeur Julia and Flight Angel Extraordinaire Sandra, who flew down especially to pick up these lovelies. 🙏
Take note - including this group, Sandra will have escorted a total of 95 dogs for various organizations. What a star 🌟

I am still holding out hope that Laika will one day spark the interest of a very special person with experience with dogs fearful of certain types of touch. It’s hard to explain other than she objects to being handled with force or pressure. Fear of something bad happening🤔 Over the last six months I have learned her triggers. Otherwise she has become a super loyal, affectionate, snuggly dog with spurts of playfulness, and is now approaching strangers with a happy tail. She loves her walks. Sleeps right by me, great appetite, 99% house trained. Crate trained. 80% poodle + chihuahua so I call her a Chi-Doodle. 🤣 Moving this girl into a new home will take serious consideration and commitment. Slow transition to new home will be a must. No children please. No cats please. Another small playful dog would help. Approximately 4 years old and weighs 5 kilos. Application on the website www.mex-can.org. I’m so pleased to see the dogs getting out consistently with thanks to Mario and family. Are they walking well on leash? Heeling? Following commands? No, but at this point I don’t care. They are gleefully walking past activities, people and other dogs without incident. That’s enough. And they’re good with the boys…bonus! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
PS - Even "El Rey" big Bobo got out for a walk. He's Mario's ❤️ dog!
