Warm summer days on the horizon means time outside enjoying nature - but also the opportunity for those pesky spear grass seeds to hitch a ride on our furry friends. The sharp, barbed seed heads tend to work their way between toes, into ears, noses, skin folds, and even eyes, quickly causing discomfort and infection.
If possible, try to choose walks out of the way of these long grasses. Keep furry paws well trimmed (especially between pads and toes) and give pets a good brush and seed-check when they come inside to help avoid problems. If your companion is showing signs of discomfort, irritation, or excessive licking after their outdoor adventures, it's best to check with your vet as soon as possible. Don't hesitate to give us a call at 250-658-5922 if you have any concerns.
