Paws what you're doing, because this news is absolutely claw-some! 🐾🎉 Drop a 😻 to celebrate!

Huge news for animal welfare in Ontario! The government has finalized a new regulation under the PAWS Act to ban medically unnecessary cosmetic procedures.

The Facts:
🗓️ Effective Date: January 1, 2027.
🐱 For Cats: Total ban on declawing.
🐶 For Dogs: Ban on ear cropping & devocalization.

At Toronto Cat Rescue, our foster network routinely cares for cats left with chronic pain from declawing. This law protects future generations and keeps cats out of the rescue ecosystem.
Violators face strict penalties—up to $75k for individuals and $250k for repeat corporate offences. Thank you to everyone who took part in the public registry consultations!

Huge thanks to the SATCH Foundation for a $25K grant to launch Bridging the Distance! 🚚❤️

Right now, vulnerable cats in Dryden (Northern Ontario) face a severe lack of resources. On June 16, our first rescue transport started their journey south to find safety and loving homes. 🐾

This funding covers the logistics, critical vet care, and adoption setups right here in Southern Ontario. Because no matter where a cat is born, they deserve a chance to thrive.

We’re one big step closer to giving them a second chance at life. Stay tuned for incoming rescue updates! Let’s keep going strong for them.

Meet Mama Mosaic 💛

At 13.5 years old, this sweet calico is looking for a quiet place to spend her golden years.

Mama loves the simple things in life: sunny spots, cozy blankets, gentle pets, and being close to her people. She’ll follow you from room to room, sleep beside you at night, and happily curl up nearby while you relax.

Like many senior cats, Mama has some age-related arthritis and receives a monthly Solensia injection to keep her comfortable. She’s also making great progress on her weight-loss journey and is feeling better every day.

Mama would love to be the only pet in a calm home where she can enjoy all the attention she deserves.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a gentle heart and so much love left to give, Mama Mosaic is waiting to meet you.

When you adopt, you’re not just bringing home a cat, you’re changing the entire course of their life. A cat who may have known uncertainty finally gets safety, comfort, and a family to call their own.

If you’re planning to spend most of the summer in the city, fostering could be one of the most meaningful things you do this year.

You don’t need to be an expert. You don’t need years of experience. You simply need a safe space, some time, and a willingness to help.

Because when a foster home says “yes,” a rescue becomes possible.

A frightened senior cat gets a second chance. A mom can raise her babies safely. A tiny kitten gets the opportunity to grow strong enough for adoption. And a cat with nowhere else to go gets a chance to feel safe.��Our foster homes are the cornerstone of everything we do. Without them, we cannot rescue cats in need.
