Annex Cat Rescue is a 100% volunteer charity dedicated to addressing the plight of homeless cats. Please note: We do not have an office or a shelter.

Annex Cat Rescue is a Toronto-based, 100% volunteer registered charity founded in 1997. Our mission is to address the problem of homeless & street cats in Toronto by spaying/neutering, bringing adoptable cats into our foster/adoption program, managing colonies of feral cats (those who are not adoptable), and educating the public about responsible pet ownership and living with community cats. Cats live with foster families or in managed colonies.

🐾 Meet Firefly & Skipper! 🖤🤍

These adorable 4-month-old brothers are full of energy, curiosity, and love! 🐱💕

Firefly is the little acrobat of the pair! He loves jumping, climbing, and chasing toys, but when playtime is over, he’s always happy to curl up for some cuddles. 🖤

Skipper is a gentle sweetheart who may hang back at first, but he loves belly rubs, attention, and playing with his feline friends. Think of him as a little Po from Kung Fu Panda! 🤍

Both boys were rescued as tiny kittens from the Keele & Finch neighbourhood and have been enjoying indoor life ever since. They’re playful, affectionate, and ready to bring lots of joy to their forever homes! 🏡❤️

Happy National Cat Day! Today we’re celebrating the cats who make our lives happier, funnier and a lot furrier! From the confident characters who rule the household to the shy souls who take their time learning to trust, every cat has a personality and a story all their own.

At Annex Cat Rescue, we believe every cat deserves safety, love and a place to call home. Today is a wonderful reminder of the cats still waiting for their chance ... the ones hoping for a cozy lap, a sunny windowsill, a little playtime and someone who will love them just as they are.

Juno is a playful little guy who loves to run from one end of the house to the other, climb cat trees, and race through the cat tunnel. He had to have his back left leg amputated, but you’d never know it from watching him play. He runs, climbs, and zooms around just like any other cat!

Juno came from an outdoor colony with his siblings, and he was always the kitten following the others around. That hasn’t changed in his foster home! He loves being close to other cats, especially when they groom each other. Having a feline friend makes Juno happy, so he’ll need to be adopted into a home with another resident cat or adopted alongside a feline companion.

Happy National Black Cat Day!

In parts of medieval Europe, black cats were associated with witches and the supernatural. Some people believed cats were witches' companions or that witches could transform into cats. These beliefs varied across places and periods but they helped create the idea that black cats were mysterious or unlucky.

Let’s celebrate our fabulous black cats like Bunny, who is looking for her furever home, today and every day.

Barney & Fred are a bonded pair of sweet, playful brothers looking for a loving home. 🧡

Barney is the confident explorer who warms up quickly and loves toys, laser time, and greeting his people. Fred is the gentler, shyer brother who adores belly rubs, cozy naps, and quietly following you around once he feels safe.

Together, they love watching “Cat TV,” grooming each other, napping side by side, and play-fighting like the best of friends. They’re looking for a calm, low-stress home where they can continue thriving together.

Have you ever caught your cat looking at you, then slowly closing and opening their eyes?

That little gesture is known as a slow blink and research suggests it can be a sign of positive feelings and a way for cats to communicate with humans.

In the feline world, a relaxed soft gaze can be a sign that your cat feels safe and comfortable in your company. And when they give you that sleepy little blink, it might just be their way of saying, “I feel good around you”.

The next time your cat is relaxed and looking at you, soften your expression, slowly close your eyes for a moment, then open them again. If they slow blink back, you may be sharing a tiny, silent moment of connection.
