BUDDY IS SAFE AFTER BEING MISSING FOR 2 DAYS!!

Buddy, a rescue dog, escaped from his grandparents’ home while his owner was away for the day. Although he was rescued six years ago, he remains extremely skittish around anyone other than his owners.

When Buddy first got out, he was seen a few times, but no one was able to catch him. He eventually disappeared down a driveway that backed onto a large forested area. Concerned for his safety, his family contacted Petsearchers for assistance.

Parker began the search the following day with Hunter. They started at the location where Buddy was last seen. It was a very large property, with extensive wooded areas behind it. Hunter quickly located a trail Buddy had taken leading into the forest.

Parker deployed the thermal drone and conducted an extensive search of the surrounding forest and nearby fields. Although there was no sign of Buddy, that didn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t there. Later that evening, Parker returned and conducted another thorough search of the area. Still, there was no sign of him. Based on Buddy’s behaviour and the circumstances of his escape, Parker felt it was only a matter of time before Buddy emerged looking for food and water and made his way back toward where he had gone missing.

Sure enough, at 5:00 AM this morning, a sighting came in.

Buddy had returned to his grandparents’ property but became spooked, just as Parker had anticipated, and took off into a nearby off-leash dog park trail system. With Buddy’s grandparents positioned on one side of the park and his owner carefully searching from the other, they followed Parker’s guidance and remained patient.

At first, Buddy ran from his owner several times. But as the pressure was kept low and she continued calmly following the plan, Buddy eventually came close enough for his survival mode to switch off. In that moment, he recognized his owner and was safely reunited with her.

Buddy is now back home safe and sound, and we’re so happy we could help bring this sweet boy home.

Take care, Buddy!

POE HAS BEEN TRAPPED AND IS SAFE!!!

Poe, an indoor-only cat, escaped from her apartment and quickly vanished without a trace. Being an extremely skittish cat, locating her hiding spot was going to be a challenge. After an extensive search by her owner with no sign of Poe, she reached out to Petsearchers for assistance.

Julia and Hunter responded and conducted a thorough search of the area. Poe lives in a busy complex surrounded by additional buildings, leaving very few safe places for a frightened cat to hide. While tracking, Hunter was only able to pick up a small amount of scent close to the apartment, leading through some bushes toward a garden area at the back of the complex.

Based on Hunter’s tracking, a trap was set in the garden area where Poe’s scent was found. Sure enough, after two more nights, Poe was safely trapped in that exact location!

We’re so relieved this sweet girl is back home safe and sound, and her owner is incredibly grateful for the efforts of Julia and Hunter.

Stay safe, sweet girl!

From Poe’s owner:
“Julia was very efficient, and their dog Hunter is a true star.”

MIN HAS BEEN TRAPPED BY PETSEARCHERS AFTER 4 NIGHTS!!

Min, an indoor-only kitty, slipped out the door on Friday and quickly disappeared. Despite an extensive search by her owners, there was no sign of her, so they reached out to Petsearchers for assistance.

This wasn’t the first time Parker had helped Min. Back in August, she went missing and he assisted in finding her after 12 days. Because of that previous case, Parker was already familiar with Min’s behaviour, her likely hiding spots, and the best strategy to bring her home safely.

Traps and cameras were set in areas where Min was most likely to feel comfortable returning. Sure enough, on the very first night, Min was captured on camera visiting both trap locations. Over the next four hours, she cautiously came and went, gradually building enough confidence to investigate further.

Then, at 2:00 a.m., Min finally entered the trap!

Her owners quickly responded, brought her safely back inside, and were incredibly relieved to have her home once again. They were grateful to Parker and Petsearchers for helping reunite them with their beloved cat for a second time!

Welcome home, Min! Let’s make this your last adventure!

ZSA ZSA HAS BEEN FOUND BY PETSEARCHERS!!!

Zsa Zsa, an indoor-only kitty, escaped from her third-floor balcony two nights ago. With the building under construction and scaffolding surrounding the balcony, she was able to make her way down unnoticed. Once her owners realized she was missing, they searched extensively but were unable to find her. Worried for her safety, they contacted Petsearchers for help.

The next morning, Julia and Hunter arrived and began a thorough search of the surrounding area. They checked nearby buildings and common hiding spots but found no sign of Zsa Zsa. As Julia worked her way back towards the apartment, Hunter found large clumps of Zsa Zsa’s hair, she was currently shedding before going missing. The apartment building bordered a heavily bushed area, and it was there that Hunter picked up her scent and zoned in on her trail.

As they followed the trail, they discovered an opening leading from the bushy area into the underground parkade beneath the apartment complex. Once access was gained to the parkade, Hunter quickly locked onto the scent trail. The trail led them to a motorcycle covered by a tarp, where Hunter gave a strong alert indicating that Zsa Zsa was hiding underneath.

Julia immediately had Zsa Zsa’s owner come down to assist. When approached, Zsa Zsa became startled and ran, but she was able to be followed. With some patient coaxing, Zsa Zsa eventually came out and was reunited with her owner!

Zsa Zsa is now back home safe and sound, and her owners are incredibly relieved and grateful to Julia, Hunter, and Petsearchers for bringing their beloved girl home.

Welcome home, Zsa Zsa! No more adventures for you!

JAMIE HAS BEEN CAUGHT AND IS SAFE!!

Jamie, a recently rescued sighthound, escaped from his owner’s car near Kitsilano Beach. In such a busy and heavily populated area, he was frightened and running from the many well-meaning people trying to help catch him.

Petsearchers was called in, and Parker began the search first thing the next morning. Hours were spent combing through forested areas and following up on sightings near where Jamie had last been seen.

Eventually, a sighting came in from another busy street. Shortly after, we spotted Jamie lying on the rocks along the waterfront. Jamie was too skittish to be coaxed with hotdogs, and it was an impossible spot to contain him. With it being so busy, Jamie got up and began running along some large rocks. Parker managed to get a net around him but Jamie stopped instantly, maneuvered out before becoming tangled, and took off in the opposite direction. It was so tricky to net a 50lb dog running full speed on uneven rocks! Ugh! And wow, can that dog run!

Being so close to netting a lost dog and just missing is incredibly frustrating, but it also shows how difficult capturing a frightened rescue dog can be. We hope the video helps illustrate just how quickly these situations unfold. There is very little room for error, especially in a busy area like Kitsilano Beach with so many moving factors. Even when a net gets around a dog, they can sometimes escape before becoming tangled. Moments like this only make us more determined to keep going and bring them home safely.

Within minutes, new sightings began coming in. Jamie was already more than a kilometre away. Over the next several hours, he would disappear and then suddenly reappear in different locations. He was covering ground incredibly quickly, making it nearly impossible to keep up with him.

Finally, a breakthrough came late last night. Jamie made his way back near where he had originally gone missing and curled up under a backyard deck to rest. Completely exhausted, he was no longer able to keep running. The homeowner was able to safely hold onto him until help arrived, and Jamie was quickly reunited with his owner.

Jamie is now off the busy streets and back where he belongs!

Parker and Jamie’s owner, Chris, are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from the community throughout the search.

A huge thank you to everyone in the Kitsilano area who called in sightings, kept an eye out for him, shared posts, and helped bring this sweet boy home safely. Every sighting made a difference, and this reunion would not have been possible without all of you.

MARLEY IS HOME SAFE AFTER A 9+ STORIES FALL FROM AN APARTMENT BUILDING!!!

Marley, an indoor cat living on the 12th floor of an apartment building, somehow got out through a window that led to the balcony. When her owners realized she was missing, they immediately searched the area below, fearing she may have fallen. Despite their efforts, there was no sign of Marley anywhere.

That’s when Petsearchers was called in to help.

Julia and Hunter conducted a thorough scent search around the apartment building, a nearby forested area, and neighboring buildings. No scent of Marley was found anywhere outside. This pointed to one likely conclusion: Marley hadn’t fallen to the ground and wandered away. She was probably still somewhere in or around the building, frightened and hiding.

Following Julia’s recommendations, Marley’s owners gained access to each floor of the building, posted flyers at every door, and spoke with as many residents as possible.

The next day, a resident on the 9th floor contacted Marley’s owner after hearing a cat meowing from a ceiling vent. When her owner arrived, she heard it too—it was Marley!

They managed to access the vent system and look inside, but Marley was nowhere to be seen. The fire department attended and used specialized equipment to try to locate her within the ventilation system, but they were unable to determine exactly where she had gone. There are vent openings accessible from the exterior of the building, which she may have entered through.

As time passed, Marley’s owners became understandably worried. Nobody knew how far she could travel through the vent system, how she had reached the 9th floor, or whether she would ever find a way back out.

Then, the following day, the breakthrough finally came.

Marley was spotted just outside the building on the ground floor!

How she got from the 12th floor to the 9th floor and then to the ground floor over the course of two days remains a mystery. Did she fall? Did she navigate her way down through the building? Did she move through the vent system? We may never know.

What we do know is that Marley is safe, and everyone is incredibly relieved.

After being examined by a veterinarian, Marley was found to be completely unharmed.

Cats are truly remarkable. Over the years, Petsearchers has assisted with multiple cases involving cats that have fallen from significant heights, including falls from 12 and 14 stories. The highest fall we’ve encountered was an incredible 17 stories, and that cat was completely fine when found.

Marley’s story is another reminder of just how resilient cats can be!

Welcome home, Marley!

CHARLIE HAS BEEN FOUND AND IS SAFE!!

After hours and hours of searching today, Parker and Charlie’s owner are so relieved and grateful to share that he has been found safe and is finally back home!

Charlie was spotted in someone’s yard kilometres away on the opposite side of Highway 1. When his owner arrived, Charlie thankfully came straight to her!

Seeing the photos of Charlie running along the highway was heartbreaking for so many people, and the amount of support from the community today was incredible. Thank you to everyone who kept an eye out, drove around searching, called in sightings, and shared his information. A huge thank you as well to the person who ultimately spotted Charlie and helped lead to him getting safely home.

We know so many people were hoping for a happy ending, and we’re very thankful to share that he is safe back where he belongs tonight!

WINSTON IS HOME SAFE AFTER 13 DAYS!!!

Winston, an indoor/outdoor kitty, disappeared and was last seen one afternoon by a neighbour. He normally never left his own yard, so it was very unusual for him not to be there when his owners came home.

After days of extensive searching around the neighbourhood with no sign of him, Winston’s owners reached out to Petsearchers for help.

Julia completed a detailed search with Hunter and located strong scent close to home, as well as across the street behind some dumpsters leading toward an apartment building under construction. Julia went over all the areas where scent was located and helped create a search plan for Winston’s owner, who followed it consistently and carefully over the following days.

The key to this recovery was persistence. Even when days go by, cats can remain hidden and usually stick to their “safe spot”. When frightened, many cats will not come when called, even if they hear or see their owners nearby. That does not mean they aren’t there!

Five nights later, Winston was finally spotted in that exact construction site. When his owners went over, he ran and hid deeper inside, but with patience and persistence, they were eventually able to safely coax him out.

Winston is now HOME SAFE, and his owners are incredibly thankful for Julia and Petsearchers’ help throughout the search.

A good reminder to continue searching and stay persistent, even days after we identify areas with scent. Consistency and patience truly make all the difference!

OSCAR IS SAFE AFTER 20 DAYS!!!

We are so incredibly happy to finally share that Oscar is safe again!

Oscar was originally trapped by Petsearchers, but unfortunately slipped his harness, collar, and leash the following day. When a dog goes missing a second time so soon after being trapped, it becomes extremely difficult, as they often become “trap smart” and much more cautious around equipment and people.

For the first couple of days after disappearing again, Oscar stayed fairly close to the area. We tried multiple trap setups that he showed interest in, but he was taking his time getting comfortable enough to fully commit. Soon after, he disappeared completely and left the area.

Oscar then went unsighted for several days. We continued heavily postering and finally received a new sighting. He had crossed a busy highway and was now in a completely different area. We focused our search efforts there for several days, but once again there was no sign of him.

After disappearing for multiple days yet again, Oscar suddenly reappeared back near the original area he went missing from. He was spotted in the backyard of a home a couple blocks away, and the homeowners kindly left food out for him, which he returned to eat. That evening, after spotting one of Oscar’s posters, they contacted us right away.

Traps were set once again, but smart Oscar had figured out how to get the food without setting them off. Finally, we got the break we needed. Oscar returned to the same backyard, and the homeowners acted quickly to block off all exits. He was able to be cornered, and Caden from the home was able to get ahold of him. After some scratches and panic, Oscar calmed and was placed in our trap so he couldn’t get away. We are beyond relieved to say he is finally safe after such a long 20 days missing a such an exhausting search!

So many hours went into bringing this boy home, Parker went out multiple times at 3 and 5am setting traps, moving them, refreshing them, and we are incredibly grateful for everyone who helped along the way.

A huge thank you to Caden, Corrie, and the family who assisted so much throughout the search and allowed us access to your property. Your help made all the difference.

Oscar will be checked over by a veterinarian, but overall he appears to be doing very well. He will now be heading to a new foster family where he can begin his next chapter. He is such a gentle, sweet boy, and he is going to make an amazing loving companion.

SABLE HAS BEEN TRAPPED & IS HOME SAFE!!

Sable was recently rescued and adopted from the SPCA and had finally found his forever home. Unfortunately, he escaped from his catio in downtown Vancouver. His owner noticed immediately and even spotted him in the alley nearby, but Sable was frightened and kept bolting whenever she got close.

Chie from VOKRA kindly stepped in to help and set a trap where Sable was last seen, but unfortunately there was no luck that first night. Petsearchers was then contacted for assistance, as a dog’s nose would like help pinpoint his location.

Julia attended the search with Hunter and conducted a thorough search of the area. The good news was that Hunter confirmed Sable’s scent was still nearby, and there was no indication he has moved far from where he was last seen. One location in particular stood out — a bushy area where Hunter gave a very strong alert. Sable was not there at the time, but a heavy concentration of scent in an area like that often means the cat had been sheltering there recently, making it an excellent location for a trap.

Julia recommended setting an additional trap exactly where Hunter had alerted, and Sable’s owner followed that guidance. Overnight, Sable was trapped safely in that very spot!

With so many dangers downtown — busy streets, noise, and other animals — we are incredibly relieved Sable is finally safe and back home where he belongs!

A huge thank you to VOKRA for assisting Sable’s owner and helping give this little guy the best chance possible. We’re so glad we could be part of bringing him home safely!

Stay safe, little guy!

From owner: “My cat escaped from my catio, and Julia from Petsearchers brought their bloodhound Hunter to scent detect my kitty. They mapped out where he had been, and suggested where to place traps to retrieve him. And that same night I found my cat in a trap placed exactly where Julia suggested!! Without their help I may not have found him. Thank you Petsearchers!”
