Rest in Peace, Taeri

Parker at Petsearchers is heartbroken to share that we have learned Taeri was tragically hit by a vehicle on Highway 1, near her home, on the Saturday she went missing.

We received a couple of messages about an animal that had been struck in the area. After investigating further and speaking with the person who originally reported it, we feel confident that the animal was Taeri. Thank you so much to the people who shared the sighting, it’s not an easy thing to do but it was an important bit of information to receive.

We are still working at finding out who picked up Taeri and where she was taken, as she wasn’t brought to any shelters. We hope to be able to bring her home to her family one last time.

Our deepest condolences go out to Taeri’s family. We wish we could have brought her home, but we hope that knowing what has happened can at least provide some answers and closure.

Rest in peace, Taeri. You were loved, and you will not be forgotten.

LYLA IS HOME AFTER 3 DAYS!!!

Parker at Petsearchers is so happy to share that Lyla has been found and is finally home safe after three long days missing!

This sweet puppy was spooked during a thunderstorm and took off. Unfortunately, no one saw which direction she ran, making the search incredibly difficult, especially in this large rural area.

Parker spent hours searching with the thermal drone, checking properties, forests, fields and surrounding areas, but there was no sign of Lyla. With no sightings and no way of knowing how far she may have travelled, her family was becoming increasingly worried.

Throughout the search, Parker kept reminding them to stay optimistic. We weren’t going to stop searching until we found her.

Then, today, with the sun back out, everything changed!

A group of young landscapers working on a property about a kilometer away, spotted Lyla running out of the yard. They immediately shut off their loud equipment and were able to calmly coax her in. The property owner then found Parker’s online post and called him.

Parker was only one minute away when he got the call!

When he arrived, Lyla was sitting safely on the back porch with the homeowners. Parker carefully got her into his truck and brought her home.

When he arrived, he told Lyla’s owner that he had brought Hunter, his bloodhound, along and asked them to come to the truck and say hi.

When Parker opened the back hatch of the truck… there was Lyla.

Her owner couldn’t believe her eyes. The emotion of finally seeing her baby safe and sound was overwhelming!

Lyla was a very dirty after three days on her own, but she was in great shape, incredibly happy to see her family, and so happy to be home.

What an incredible ending to a very stressful three days.

OBO HAS BEEN FOUND AFTER 6 DAYS!!!

Obo, an indoor-only former rescue cat, was outside in the yard on his leash when a sudden sound spooked him. He slipped out of his harness and disappeared.

Obo is extremely skittish and an expert at hiding, so his owners became increasingly worried as the days passed. They reached out to Parker at Petsearchers for help.

Parker and Hunter conducted a thorough search of the surrounding apartment complexes before moving toward a heavily treed area leading to the Fraser River. Hunter picked up Obo’s scent leading down toward the water.

The area was quiet, cool, had little foot traffic, and provided plenty of cover. Obo’s scent was found along several trails, so rather than risk pushing farther in and flushing him out, a scent trail was placed back toward the apartment and a camera was set up to monitor the door.

Another indoor-outdoor cat had been visiting overnight, likely preventing Obo from coming home. A couple nights later, the cat didn’t show up and at 1 AM, Obo finally appeared on camera!

He had made his way all the way back to the apartment and even went inside through an open door, but immediately ran back out.

His owner patiently waited outside, following Parker’s guidance. After about two hours, Obo finally came close enough for his owner to safely pick him up and bring him inside.

Lots of cuddles followed!

His family was incredibly relieved to finally have their sweet boy home after six long days.

We’re so happy we could help bring Obo home safely and reunite him with his family!

AFTER 4 WEEKS, JERRY HAS BEEN TRAPPED BY PETSEARCHERS!!

This was definitely a unique case!

Jerry and Kit, two indoor-only cats, moved to a new home back in July. The move was extremely stressful for them, and both cats became very anxious and ran into the basement to hide.

Kit found a small hiding spot, while Jerry discovered a hole in the basement flooring and disappeared inside. Their owners tried everything to get them out, but after weeks of hiding, they knew they needed help.

The cats were still coming out overnight to eat, drink and use the litter box, but would quickly retreat back into hiding whenever anyone was around.

Parker came out to assess the situation and set up a humane trap for Jerry. When he arrived, Kit was actually in an area where he could reach her. Because she was extremely anxious and defensive, Parker put on his thick bite-proof gloves and was able to safely get Kit into a carrier. She was then brought upstairs to a quiet room where she could decompress.

Now it was time to focus on Jerry.

The trap was set, but Jerry didn’t make things easy!

For several days, there was no sign of her. Eventually, she appeared and ate just the tiny amount of food placed at the very front of the trap before disappearing back into the floor.

So we changed the strategy.

The food was slowly moved farther and farther into the trap. Each time Jerry appeared, she would venture a little farther inside.

Day by day, she became more comfortable.

Finally, after FOUR WEEKS of hiding inside the flooring, Jerry went far enough into the trap to trigger it.

CAUGHT!

Jerry was finally safe and could be reunited with Kit, where both girls could begin decompressing in a quiet environment.

Jerry is still very skittish and anxious, and she will be seeing her veterinarian to discuss medication to help her through this transition. Kit, thankfully, is already doing much better.

It will take some time, patience and plenty of reassurance, but we’re confident Jerry will be back to her happy self.

MILLIE IS BACK HOME SAFE!!!

Millie, a recently rescued dog, went missing yesterday after her harness ripped and her leash came undone during a walk. She was staying in an RV at Langley’s Thunderbird Stadium, where a large event was taking place. With hundreds of trailers, lots of people, noise and activity all around, it was a difficult environment for a frightened dog to navigate back to her family.

Parker at Petsearchers was called in this morning and immediately started the search.

A thermal drone was used to search numerous properties around the area, but much of the surrounding land was large acreage with abandoned barns, buildings and plenty of places for a scared dog to hide. Parker physically searched these areas as well.

As things started to quiet down and temperatures cooled this evening, Parker returned to continue the search. Cameras were placed along a path where Millie had been spotted, as well as back at the RV where she was staying.

Even though the RV was deep inside the stadium grounds and surrounded by hundreds of other trailers, Parker knew there was a good chance Millie might try to make her way back once everything became quiet.

And sure enough…

As Parker was getting ready to leave after setting the camera and was walking away, there was Millie, just 30 feet from the RV!

Millie was trying to get back home, so we had to move quickly.

A humane trap was set right beside the RV, and Parker stayed in his truck to keep watch. It wasn’t long before Millie appeared. She checked out the trap, sniffed around the RV and made it very clear that she wanted to get back inside.

Parker called Millie’s owner and had her quietly open the RV door and hide inside. Parker, waiting in his truck, was ready to close the door behind her.

The plan worked perfectly.

Minutes later, Millie walked right up to the RV and went inside. Parker came up behind her, closed the door, and Millie was finally HOME SAFE!

She immediately jumped into her bed, her safe place and curled up and went straight to sleep.

She was completely exhausted, but safe and back with her family. And you can already see the incredible bond between Millie and her people.

We’re so happy we could help bring this sweet girl home. This was a dangerous area for a loose dog, and we’re incredibly thankful this search ended with Millie safely back where she belongs.

SESAME IS HOME SAFE!!

Sesame, an indoor-only kitty, escaped from her sitter’s house after managing to push open a small opening in a window screen and getting outside.

She was initially seen close to the house and even tried to climb back through the window, but wasn’t able to get inside. When a door was left open, Sesame became frightened and ran off.

The sitter reached out to Parker and Petsearchers for help.

After assessing the situation, Parker determined that the biggest risk was accidentally spooking Sesame away from the sitter’s house. Since she was in an unfamiliar area and a quiet apartment complex, the goal was to avoid flushing her out and causing her to travel farther away.

Parker decided to set up a humane trap and camera to monitor the area without putting pressure on her.

Sure enough, Sesame appeared on camera that night! She walked past the trap several times over a couple of hours but didn’t seem interested in going inside.

At around 1 AM, Parker reached out to the sitter and came up with a new plan.

The sitter was also looking after Sesame’s very bonded brother. We had the sitter place her brother securely in a carrier, leave the door to inside the house slightly open, and put some wet food nearby as well. The idea was to use the familiar sight and smell of her brother to encourage Sesame to come back into the house.

The sitter then waited quietly near the door.

About two hours later, Sesame finally snuck her way inside. The sitter was ready, quickly closed the door, and Sesame was safely back inside!

After such a stressful situation involving someone else’s cat, the sitter was incredibly thankful to have Petsearchers there to help come up with a safe recovery plan.

Today, we said goodbye to our sweet Bloodhound, Cricket.

Although Cricket was never one of our working tracking dogs, she was always a part of the Petsearchers family and team. She was there for the adventures, the long days, and always greeted everyone with a wagging tail.

What we’ll miss most is seeing her out in the yard. It won’t be the same without her, and we know Trapper is going to miss his best friend more than anyone. The two of them were inseparable.

Thank you for all the love you gave us over the years, Cricket.

Run free, sweet girl. We’ll miss you so much.

18 YEAR OLD CAT FOUND AFTER 31 DAYS MISSING!!

Sunny, an indoor-only cat, went missing in June and seemingly vanished without a trace. At 18 years old, time was critical, and his owners searched tirelessly for weeks with no sign of him.

Just as hope was beginning to fade, someone posted a photo online on July 23 of a cat hanging around the Richmond Hospital parking lot. It was Sunny!

His owners rushed there immediately, but unfortunately he was nowhere to be found.

After several more days without any luck, they knew they needed help and contacted Petsearchers.

Julia arrived with Hunter and completed a thorough scent search of the hospital grounds, the surrounding forest, and nearby apartment buildings. Hunter located Sunny’s scent around the apartments, with additional scent found in the hospital parking lot and a small wooded area beside a pond.

Based on the scent work, we believed Sunny had likely been hiding near the apartments while travelling back and forth to the hospital in search of food, using the nearby pond as a reliable water source.

After the search, Julia developed a detailed recovery plan for Sunny’s owners, including placing posters throughout the area and focusing their efforts on the locations where Hunter had confirmed Sunny’s scent.

A few days later, that plan paid off.

The posters alerted another Good Samaritan, who spotted Sunny back at the hospital and immediately contacted his owner. This time, they arrived quickly enough to keep him in sight and gently coax him to safety.

After 31 days missing, Sunny is finally home where he belongs. He has since been examined by a veterinarian and is doing well.

For an 18-year-old cat to survive on his own for over a month is nothing short of incredible. What an amazing little survivor!

A huge thank you to the person who first posted Sunny’s sighting online, and to the second Good Samaritan who spotted him again and called right away. Your actions helped bring this senior kitty home.

TARO HAS BEEN FOUND BY PETSEARCHERS!!

Taro, an indoor-only kitty, escaped through an open back window and disappeared. After several days of searching, her owners were unable to find her. There had been a couple of reported sightings nearby, suggesting that, like many indoor cats, Taro had stayed close to home and was hiding in silence.

Julia and Hunter from Petsearchers were called in to assist.

Based on the information provided, it was believed Taro had escaped into the backyard, slipped under the fence, and made her way toward the block behind the family’s home where she had potentially been seen.

Hunter quickly picked up Taro’s scent on the owners’ street before leading Julia toward the next block. The trail continued along the road until Hunter became extremely focused on a large, dense bush beside a house. His body language made it clear that Taro was very likely hiding inside.

Julia immediately called the owners and let them know she was confident they had found Taro’s hiding spot. The family rushed over and carefully searched through the thick bush, where they discovered Taro tucked away deep inside!

Startled by all the excitement, Taro briefly slipped from her owner’s arms, but the family quickly cornered her safely against a nearby fence and secured her in her carrier.

Another indoor kitty safely back where she belongs!

WILLOW HAS BEEN FOUND AFTER 5 DAYS!!!

Willow, an 8-pound Shih Tzu cross, went missing from her pet sitter last Friday. Her owners found out on Saturday and immediately began searching everywhere for her. Although Willow had been spotted a couple of times, she was such a tiny dog in such a large area that no one could catch up to her.

Parker with Petsearchers was contacted, but with another active search already underway, he wasn’t able to attend until this morning after Ada was safely caught last night.

Once on scene, Parker launched the thermal drone to search the area. Knowing Willow’s size, he understood there was a good chance she was tucked away under decks, sheds, or other places the thermal camera couldn’t see through. As he scanned the neighbourhood, he marked several properties that looked promising and decided to search them on foot with Willow’s owner.

After checking several yards, they knocked on the door of another property. Hearing dogs barking inside, Parker figured Willow likely wasn’t hiding there, but wanted to ask if the homeowners had seen a small lost dog.

That simple knock on the door changed everything.

The homeowner told them they had spotted Willow the previous evening a couple of houses away near a church parking lot. With this new information, they headed there immediately.

Parker had Willow’s owner begin calling for her, knowing that if they were close enough, Willow would likely respond. Moments later, they heard a tiny bark. Looking carefully through the bushes, there she was.

Willow was frightened after spending five nights on her own, but as soon as her owner got close enough to pick her up, she immediately began covering him with kisses. It was an emotional reunion, and everyone was overjoyed to see this sweet little girl finally safe where she belongs.

Karen drove from Chilliwack multiple times to assist with the search and even stayed out until 1:00 a.m. last night, hoping Willow would appear. Your dedication, compassion, and willingness to help animals and their families never go unnoticed. Thank you for everything you did to help bring Willow home.
