We finished our Novice title in CKC Obedience today. Gordie had his front right foot jammed in the door yesterday evening... When I pulled him out at the fairgrounds today to potty him, he seemed a little lame, but it was hard to tell. When I pulled him out to warm him up for our run, he was full on limping for several steps. I went to panic station. He managed to kind of walk it off and get in the ring and it wasn't noticeable. But my attitude was and therefore, so was his. This dog reads me like a book. He lagged dramatically in our heeling pattern, but managed to do well for the other exercises. He received High In Class and now has a new title.
While I'm not happy with performance, I'm looking forward to getting back to just training and working more on Open exercises.
I have a bad habit of looking at what we messed up in and thinking of how to improve, rather than celebrating our wins.
Ultimately, I came home with the best dog and I'm so thankful for him always showing up for me.

So proud of this girl.🙌 Tillie came to me not long ago when her mom reached out for help. She was struggling to even brush her anymore and she was beginning to mat in certain areas. I said we'd do a session and see what could be done.
I discovered quickly that Tillie was not only a lovely dog, but she had learned how to get out of something she didn't want to do. And she would do this with me by trying to launch herself off the table.

We chatted about expecting more of Tillie at home and that there are some things she doesn't have a choice about.
We did a few short sessions, where I was able to get rid of the matting and introduce her to other elements of grooming.

Today she had her first bath, deshed, blowdry and trim. I was unable to do much on her front feet today - leaving those pesky toe mats is going to drive me insane. But I need to regroup and think of how I can help her get through it. The more we practice reps where the dog struggles and fights, can often lead to it being the expectation of how it will be. We ended on a good note of her cooperating enough for me to shave the paw pads and get a few front nails trimmed. Accidently cutting the dog isn't worth it. Her mom said that brushing at home is going much better now too!✨️
