🎡 THROWBACK TO MAY — BRIA'S EARLY CARNIVAL EXPOSURE. 🎡

🐾 This was one of Bria's early controlled-exposure sessions around carnival rides, flashing lights, loud noises, crowds, and movement. 🐾

🐕 Mason was there too, and his calm, stable presence gave Bria a steady dog to work alongside while she learned how to process everything happening around her. 🐕

🧠 The goal wasn't to overwhelm her. It was to help her learn how to stay calm, connected, and able to work while gradually handling more of the environment. When something caught her off guard, we worked through that challenge and kept building from there. 🧠

😂 And then, by the end, Bria basically decided, “Oh. This isn't so bad after all.” And naturally, her solution was to flop into one of her famous downs and just chill. 😂

🐾 Looking back at this footage now, it's pretty damn cool to see where she started. And honestly? Some things haven't changed. Bria still loves her downs. 🐾

🐕‍🦺 AND THEN WE TRIED IT AGAIN. 🐕‍🦺

📈 Same session. Same exercise. More practice. 📈

😂 After Bria's first attempt at the 360°, we kept working through it. We did about eight repetitions, and the difference was pretty damn impressive. 😂

🐾 This time, Bria understood the movement much better and stayed with the exercise through the turn. It wasn't perfect—but it was a whole lot closer. 🐾

🧠 That's what training looks like. You find the gap, make the adjustment, repeat, and give the dog a chance to figure it out. 🧠

🐕‍🦺 Not perfect. Progress. 🐕‍🦺

🐕‍🦺 TRAINING ISN'T ABOUT PERFECTION. IT'S ABOUT PROGRESS. 🐕‍🦺

🧠 Mason has thousands upon thousands of hours of training behind him. Bria is still building her foundation, and that's exactly what this session was about: finding out where she is and where we need to make adjustments. 🧠

😂 And yes... that 360° happened. Bria's interpretation was definitely different from Mason's. 😂

📈 But that's training. You don't hide the mistakes—you use them. They show you what the dog understands, where the gaps are, and what needs more practice. 📈

🐾 Bria isn't supposed to be Mason. She's supposed to be Bria—and she's learning. 🐾

🐕‍🦺 SERVICE DOG AWARENESS MONTH — WHY I CREATED K9 SAFE HARBOR LIFELINES. 🐕‍🦺

🧭 Knowing your rights matters. But knowing your rights is only one part of being prepared as a service-dog team. 🧭

🐾 I created K9 Safe Harbor Lifelines because I saw a need for owner-trained teams to have access to structured training, documentation, public-access evaluation, and real-world education—especially here in Northern Ontario. 🐾

📋 A healthcare professional can document a person's disability-related need for a service animal. Training professionals can document the dog's training, progress, and working skills. Those are different things, and both can have practical importance depending on the situation. 📋

🛡️ My goal isn't to teach handlers to walk into every difficult situation looking for a fight. It's to help them walk in prepared.🛡️

🛡️Know your rights.
🛡️Know your responsibilities.
🛡️Know your dog's skills.
🛡️Keep your training documented.
🛡️Understand what documentation may be required in different situations.

⚖️ There absolutely are times when a person needs to stand up for their rights. But education shouldn't leave someone thinking that every access problem has to become a legal battle. ⚖️

🗣 A well-prepared owner-trained team should have more tools than “see you in court.” 🗣

🧭That's why K9 Safe Harbor Lifelines exists.🧭

🐕‍🦺 IMPULSE CONTROL HAS TO WORK BEYOND THE TRAINING ROOM. 🐕‍🦺

🧠 Teaching a dog to leave food alone in a controlled environment is one thing. Teaching that same skill when you're surrounded by noise, movement, people, and other distractions is where the real proofing begins. 🧠

🍖 In this training session, Bria starts with food directly in front of her in a controlled indoor setting. Then we take that same skill into a much more distracting environment, where food is placed right beside her while she maintains her position and waits for her release. 🍖

📈 That's an important part of training: the behaviour has to become reliable in different places and under different levels of distraction. We don't simply teach the behaviour once and assume the dog understands it everywhere. 📈

🐾 Train the skill. Change the environment. Increase the challenge. Build reliability. 🐾

🤔 I CAME ACROSS A QUESTION ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT REALLY MADE ME THINK. 🤔

📱 “If I died and a stranger found this phone, and they asked about its owner, based on everything you know about me, what would you tell them?” 📱

💭 I thought it was such a strange question… but also a really interesting one. So I asked mine. 💭

👇 I'll put the answer in the comments. 👇

🐾 What do you think yours would say about you? 🐾

🐾✨ Throwback to a much smaller Mason! ✨🐾

🧱 Before the public access work, the confidence, and all the milestones that came later, there were building blocks. One behaviour, one environment, and one distraction at a time. 🧱

🐕‍🦺 This training was taking place during COVID, when opportunities to safely expose a young dog to different environments were much harder to come by. We had to get creative with where and how we trained, while still building the skills Mason would eventually need in the real world. 🐕‍🦺

🌱 This old video is also a reminder that a behaviour learned in one environment doesn't automatically transfer perfectly to another. Change the location, add distractions, increase the difficulty—and sometimes you need to step back and rebuild that piece again. 🌱

❤️ Looking back at this footage years later, I can see both Mason's learning curve and my own. We were learning together, one building block at a time. ❤️

🧭 That's still at the heart of how I approach training today: build the foundation, create success, and gradually prepare the team for the real world. 🧭
