When verifying your training, it's important to ask yourself these four questions:
1. Do I have my dog's attention?
2. How effective is my reinforcement?
3. Does my dog understand the cue in this context?
4. What should my next step be?
By asking yourself these specifics, you can identify where your dog's misunderstanding occurred during training.

You want to have your dog off lead, but they won't come back when you call them?

Maybe they're a brand-new dog, a foster, a teenage puppy who has suddenly had their brain replaced by a turnip and forgotten everything you’ve taught them, a dog who can't resist chasing...and maybe catching...other critters, a dog who is liable to start a brawl with other dogs for the sheer thrill of it, a dog who is pretty spooky and will bolt if they get a fright. Whatever the reason you, you certainly wouldn’t bet money on them coming back when you call them. Enter: Longlines and the Magic of Management.

Longlines attached to a well fitted harness allow your dog relative freedom, while being safely attached to you. Yes, it's a compromise, it’s not quite the same as hooning around off lead, and you'll need to use your common sense when the time and place is to use one. Think a quiet reserve or the beach vs. the footpath.

You can keep everyone safe and allow your dog to sniff and wander, while preventing them from doing things we’d rather they didn’t (like dashing off after those sheep, rushing over to that group of dogs in the distance, or crashing that picnic) and learning that it pays to stick close to you.

Past pets always hold a special spot in our hearts. Chelsey was my heart dog and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of her. My advice, take photos and lots of photos! time flies when you are having fun! I am thankful every day I took this picture. This was one week before her passing with every ribbon she has ever won.❤

If you’re currently struggling with a teenage dog, try not to panic and instead remember that just like with teenage humans, it’s probably just a phase.

Pay attention to those behaviours you’re seeing, while keeping up with training and rewarding the behaviours you like, and importantly keep managing them so they can’t get up to mischief and develop a repertoire of bad habits. They probably need reminding that many of the same rules you had as a puppy still apply to teenager… See more

Growling is communication; it's not being naughty. It's the warning before the bite. straight to a bite next time. All you've done is take the batteries out of the smoke alarm and now you have no warning. Learn to read the body language signs before your dog has to escalate their behaviour to get you to listen.
