Bat Pack Mythbusters! 🦇
Myth... structured walks aren't fun.
Firstly, I am offended 😂
But in all seriousness, sometimes people see us and wonder if the dogs are actually having a good time because they're so calm and just walking together as a group.
Structure doesn't take the fun out of a walk, it creates the foundation for it.
Our dogs don't spend their walks marching in formation with no freedom to sniff, explore or be dogs 😂 They get to sniff, explore and move. They get to interact appropriately and enjoy their environment and each other.
What we add is structure around those things, because freedom without the skills to handle it can quickly become overstimulation. Structure gives dogs a framework they can understand, and once they understand the framework, they can relax within it.
That's why you'll see us stopping, changing direction, weaving, practicing stays, creating space and asking our dogs to check in with us, we love our eye contact! 👀
Those aren't interruptions to the walk, they are part of the walk. We're not trying to make dogs robotic, we're teaching them how to think, regulate, communicate and move through the world with us. It's such a special feeling and I'm quite literally hooked 😂
A truly enjoyable walk isn't one where a dog gets to do absolutely whatever they want, it's one where they feel confident enough to be curious, connected and calm ❤️
