Applications are now open for VET CAMP 2025!

Do you know a child that would like to discover the types of jobs veterinarians do? Would they like to experience what happens behind the scenes at an animal hospital? Join us at our eighth annual Vet Camp to explore the world of veterinary medicine!

Campers will participate in many interactive activities such as viewing surgeries, learning about radiology, checking out our microscope lab and much more! We will also be teaching our campers about the “Fear-Free” techniques we use in hospital to keep all of our four-legged friends more comfortable and relaxed during their visits.

Vet Camp is for kids aged 9 and up. Please email [email protected] for application forms. Participants will be selected based on their applications.

Camp will take place Monday, July 7th - Thursday, July 10th, 2025 from 9 AM - 12 PM at Gulf Island Veterinary Clinic. The cost is $250 per child. All proceeds will go towards our Kip Memorial Angel Fund, which allows us to provide necessary care to pets in need of our financial help.

The deadline for early applications is Sunday, June 9th, 2025. Apply soon as spaces are limited!

We had the most adorable little hen and her little girl in the clinic today 🥰Pop is a Serama Chicken and had a pr*****ed vent. Dr Tedder was able to help her and we are optimistic she will have a great recovery. She is heading home with a new fashion statement, a custom cone so she doesn't take her sutures out. We love helping chickens ❤️and she was a star patient ⭐️

A Bryde’s whale was recently discovered on a beach in Port McNeill, northeastern end of Vancouver Island. Islanders Mike & Michi deRoos are Skeleton Articulators and will be breathing life back into this amazing specimen for display. We had the privilege of being asked to xray one of it's fins so they could study it before preparing it for an exhibit.

Here is a link to their amazing work on their website. They do really incredible work. 😎 http://www.cetacea.ca/

The species has never been seen in British Columbia waters, this one was a young male and cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Bryde's (pronounced "broodus") whales are members of the baleen whale family and look similar to Sei whales but are smaller, prefer warmer waters and usually seen alone or in pairs.

Well we really do see them all!!! Surprise visit by a beaver 🦫 today. This little guy appeared to be injured and was brought in by the Wildlife Center. Once he had some sedation, we were able to take some radiographs and examine him. What a sweet little fellow. We couldn't move him very much due to pain and stress so were unable to visualize the "undercarriage" So how do we know its a male? If you look at the lateral Xray, the red arrow is pointing at the "os p***s," also known as the baculum or p***s bone. It is a bone located within the p***s of many placental mammals (not humans) 💀 and is visible on Xray. There was no obvious injury or broken bones so we suspect there is perhaps some paralysis due to a previous injury to the pelvis. He will spend some time with the Wildlife center resting and recovering. Grateful we can help so many amazing animals here! It is always exciting in our clinic.

We See Them ALL!

At our vet clinic, we open the door,
To creatures galore, and then some more!
Big or small, short or tall,
If it breathes (or hisses), we’ve seen them all.
We’ve seen a parrot who swears like a sailor bold,
And a hamster convinced he’s eight years old.
A hedgehog once gave us the stink-eye glare,
While a boa constrictor chilled in a chair.
A ferret played dead (for dramatic flair),
And a goat ate our chart — the whole thing! — I swear.
A cat came in, aloof and grand,
Knocked our pens off with a flick of her hand.
A dog bounced in, full zoomie-mode,
Then peed with pride on our welcome road.
We've bandaged ducks (yes, that’s a thing too),
And wrestled with cats who know kung fu.
A bunny hopped in with a limp on the right —
Turns out he’d just tripped in the middle of the night.
So bring us your beasts, your pets of all kinds,
With feathers or fur, or questionable minds.
From the tame to the wild, the quiet to loud —
We treat them with care (and make their owners proud)!
