Some hearts are as big as the bodies that carry them.
Sir Winston, a magnificent gentle giant with the sweetest heart, had a love for crunchy snacks, and a favourite spot by the window watching the world go by. He was clearly so much more than a big boy — he was home, comfort, and everything a family could ever ask for.
Rest peacefully, sweet Winston. You were one magnificent boy, and the love you gave so freely will always be part of the family who adores you.🐾🌈❤️

Winston came into our lives in 2020, when the world had just become very small, and somehow made ours immeasurably bigger.

He was our Velcro COVID baby, our shadow, our 140-pound little spoon and the self-appointed senior manager of our home. For six years, we never went to the bathroom alone, rarely got the best spot on the couch, and understood that every water bowl should contain ice and every carrot belonged to him.

He was magnificent and ridiculous in equal measure: snoring, side-eye, dramatic sighs, biiiiig stretches, serious naps, surprise bursts of speed, tight turns and big-boy walks with his dad. He was a hide-and-seek champion, a distinguished gentleman and a shameless pillow thief.

His size made people notice him; his gentle nature made them remember him.

We will always make room for you.

In loving memory of Kobe❤️

Some cats have a special talent for finding the warmest spots in the house, and somehow, the warmest places in our hearts, too. ☀️

Sweet Kobe knew exactly where to find a patch of sunshine, and in his own quiet way, he brought that same warmth and joy into the lives of those who loved him.

Now, those familiar sunspots hold a little more meaning. The places where he once curled up and basked in the warmth are gentle reminders of a presence that made a house feel like home. And while his family will miss seeing their sweet boy soaking up the sunshine, the love he brought into their lives will always remain.

Rest easy, dear Kobe. May the sunshine always find you, sweet boy. You will be missed beyond words and remembered with so much love.🐾☀️

This week, we want to shine a very special light on the incredible veterinary technicians who are at the heart of Resting Paws. 🩺❤️

When a family invites us into their home to say goodbye to a beloved pet, our technicians bring so much more than their medical expertise. They bring steady hands, compassionate hearts, and an extraordinary ability to care for both the pet and everyone who loves them.

They are the skilled hands meticulously placing an IV catheter, even in our most critical patients, helping ensure a peaceful and gentle passing.
They are the quiet, reassuring presence beside a grieving family. The gentle hug when words aren’t enough. The person sitting with a child who needs a little extra comfort, or making sure the other pets in the home are supported, too.
They are the ones who respond when a pet is suffering and a family desperately needs help, rushing out to a home because they know that sometimes, comfort simply cannot wait.
They are the ones who gently swaddle and respectfully carry a beloved companion to the car, treating every pet with the same tenderness and dignity they would want for their own.
And they are the ones who understand that this work is never just a medical appointment. It is a family’s final moments with someone they love deeply. Every detail matters. Every gentle touch matters. Every ounce of compassion matters.

At Resting Paws, our technicians are an essential part of the hospice model we are so proud to offer our community.
This work asks so much of the people who do it. It asks for clinical precision in emotionally charged moments, resilience in the face of grief, and the ability to hold space for others while carrying the weight of this work themselves.

In Loving Memory of Jake❤️

Some dogs have a way of making themselves part of every little corner of our lives, until we can hardly imagine a day without them. 🤍

Sweet, little, scruffy, and spunky Jake had a heart full of love, an unforgettable helicopter tail, and a spirit that loved to chase deer. He was the kind of boy who brought his own special spark to every day. Always close by his mom’s side, he was her faithful shadow, her sunshine, and her happy place.

Jake, you were so much more than a beloved dog. You were someone’s safe place, constant companion, and very best friend. What a beautiful thing to have been so completely loved, and to have given that same love in return.

Some of the deepest love lives in the smallest, most familiar moments.

Sweet Bonkers, with his beautiful eyes and the comfort of his familiar footsteps coming down the hall, made a house feel like a home. For ten years, he filled his family’s days and nights with the kind of companionship that becomes woven into the very fabric of everyday life.

It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially when the heart wishes for more time. Bonkers, you were, and always will be, so deeply loved, and the place you hold in your family’s hearts will always be yours. May your family always feel close to you in the little things that remind them of their sweet boy.

Some companions walk beside us through life. Others help carry us through it. ❤️

Today, we honour sweet Ope, a very special boy whose fifteen years were filled with adventure, companionship, and a love that reached far beyond words.

Ope was so much more than a beloved pet to his family. He was their friend, their companion, their champion. Through profound grief and moments of joy, he stayed by their side, offering the kind of quiet, unwavering love that only a very special soul can give. He became their cherished grandson, holding a place in their family and their hearts that could never be filled by anyone else.

From camping adventures and swims to the simple comfort of being together, Ope shared a lifetime of memories with the people who meant everything to him. And what a gift that is: to have loved someone so deeply, and to have been loved so completely in return.

We know that saying goodbye to a companion who has walked beside you through life’s greatest sorrows and sweetest moments leaves an immeasurable space behind. Our hearts are with Ope’s family as they navigate life without their very best boy, and we hope that the many beautiful memories they made together will continue to bring warmth and comfort in the days ahead.

In Loving Memory of Buckaroo❤️

Some goodbyes come far too soon, leaving a heartbreak that is too difficult to put into words.💔🐾

Buckaroo was a friend to everyone he met, both two-legged and four-legged. A little social butterfly with a love for adventure, he found something truly special in the pack he called family. In a house full of dogs, he wasn’t simply one of the bunch; he was one of their own. The cuddles, the companionship, the comfort of curling up alongside his furry friends — he belonged right there among them.

He had an adventurous spirit and a world to explore, but no matter where his little adventures took him, he always came home to his mom’s arms, where he could settle in and feel safe.

There is no preparing your heart for a loss like this, or making sense of a goodbye that comes before you are ready. We know how deeply Buckaroo is missed, and we hope that, with time, the pain of his absence will soften enough for the beautiful memories to shine through: the friendships he made, the adventures he had, and the precious comfort of having him curled up in his mom’s arms.

Run free, sweet Buckaroo. You were so much more than a beloved companion. You were a best friend, a cherished member of your pack, and someone’s whole world. You deserved so much more time, little buddy, and you will always be loved.

Golden hearts have a way of leaving paw prints that last forever.🐾💛

Today, we remember sweet Kallie, a beautiful, deeply loved Golden Retriever. Our hearts go out to her family, who said goodbye to her beloved Golden sister, Kaiah, just three short months ago💔. To lose both of your girls in such a short time is an immeasurable heartbreak, and we hope that, amidst the sorrow of missing them both, there is some comfort in imagining them together again.

We like to think that somewhere, Kallie and Kaiah have found each other again, their golden tails wagging, their hearts at home beside one another. And while their absence leaves an ache that words cannot ease, the love they brought into their family’s life will always be part of their story.
