Meet Rosalind! She Fought to Survive. Now, Rosalind Is Ready to Be Loved.

Rosalind's mother was a feral rescue from a hoarding situation. When RAPS took her in, she was very late in her pregnancy, and when she went into labour, our hospital team was forced to perform a C section to protect the young mothers' health.

We discovered immediately that the infant Rosalind was not breathing on her own. After an hour of stimulation and suction, she was finally breathing on her own. But that wasn't the end of Rosalind's struggles.

From birth, her mother refused to nurse her, requiring extensive bottle feeding to get the small cat to grow healthily. And soon after, the frail kitten caught a stomach bug and lost her appetite.

Rosalind was taken into medical foster by one of our staff, and was fed by hand and syringe in hopes that she would pull through. Soon, Rosalind would begin to eat again and with the return of her appetite came the blossoming of her personality.

Two months into her life, Rosalind has revealed herself to be an adorable, affectionate kitten who loves to follow people around and demand their whole, undivided attention. (She's also especially fond of making biscuits).

Meet Rosalind and our other adoptables at our Adoption Centre open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 4 pm. Potential adopters can just drop in.

More than 150 cats, kittens and pregnant mothers needed help. But no two needed exactly the same thing.

Vancouver Coastal Health has reported that a number of people have been bitten by a rabid skunk in downtown Vancouver.

– Report Details –

SEEK TREATMENT
While Vancouver Coastal Health stated that the skunk was captured on Wednesday,
Oct. 21, anyone who had contact with a skunk between Sept. 22 and Oct. 17 is being asked to seek treatment.

LOCATION
The area covered by the advisory includes Stanley Park, the West End, and areas of downtown Vancouver bordered by Georgia and Burrard streets.

PET OWNERS
Any pet owner whose animal had direct contact with a skunk, in downtown Vancouver, during the four weeks identified by authorities should contact their vet immediately.

HUMAN EXPOSURE
Contact your GP or HealthLink BC
by calling 811 immediately.

REMINDER
This serves as a good reminder that if your dog or outdoor cat has not been vaccinated for Rabies within the last year, we encourage you to contact your vet to check whether their vaccine status is overdue or not.

Does your tortoise need a beak trim? Just like our fingernails, a tortoise’s beak is made of keratin and continues to grow throughout their life.

In the wild, eating fibrous vegetation and tougher foods helps naturally wear the beak down. But for some pet tortoises, their beak may grow faster than it wears down.

🐢 Meet Mr. April! He’s here to remind us that tortoises need vet care, too! For example, an overgrown beak can make it difficult for a tortoise to properly grasp and tear food and, over time, may affect how their jaws come together.

If you have a tortoise as a companion, our team can examine their beak and let you know whether a trim is recommended.

Because every pet deserves the right care, even the ones with shells! 💚
