Ottawa Dog Rescue Ottawa Dog Rescue is a foster-based organization dedicated to helping abandoned, abused, and surrendered dogs find well-matched forever homes.

We help dogs in need through partnerships with shelters and rescue groups across Canada and internationally. Ottawa Dog Rescue was founded in August 2013 by a group of dedicated dog-lovers and experienced rescuers. We are an all-breed, foster-based rescue in the nation’s capital who have dedicated ourselves to helping abandoned, abused and surrendered dogs find well suited forever homes within the

Greater Ottawa area. Our mission is to be a transparent, accountable and professionally run non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs at risk in the Ottawa area. We have a great team of committed volunteers, foster homes and local veterinarians to help us achieve our goals. All of our rescue dogs are provided with temporary foster home care until we find them well-matched and carefully screened forever homes. Along with rescue, we aim to educate by bringing awareness to responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter. Rescue is about saving lives, and we will do what it takes to do rescue right, because too many lives are lost due to a lack of public awareness and resources. We want to be part of the solution and will strive to make a difference one dog at a time. The rescue is organized as an Ontario and Federal non-profit charitable corporation #1899733. We had to wait until the official announcement was made, and now that it has, we are so excited to share the results of the Pet Valu Carleton Place 2026 PAW Month fundraiser!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Carleton Place community, $8,236 was raised for Ottawa Dog Rescue! 🎉

Every dollar raised goes directly toward helping us continue our mission of giving abandoned, abused, and surrendered dogs the second chance they deserve.
We are so grateful to have such an incredible partner in Pet Valu. A special thank you to Bridget and the entire Pet Valu Carleton Place team for always being in our corner and supporting our rescue every step of the way.

This July, 3 amazing dogs found their forever homes, and we couldn't be happier for them.

NAME: Pop Tart

Meet Pop Tart (aka Poppy) 🌸

Toasted to perfection and ready to find her forever person.
Don’t let the double digits fool you, this spunky 10-year-old Chihuahua still has plenty of pep in her tiny paws. Poppy is equal parts sass, sunshine, and snack enthusiast. If it hits the floor and it’s edible, consider it gone. Treats are definitely her love language.

Poppy loves the simple things in life: chasing chipmunks, sunbathing, going for walks, and car rides. The moment she sees her leash, she’s ready for her next adventure.

Like any self-respecting Chihuahua, Poppy has opinions. She can be vocal when she spots unfamiliar dogs on walks and may be a little mouthy with new people who try to pick her up before earning her trust. Give her patience, a few treats, and respect for her boundaries, and you’ll quickly win her over.

Once you’re her person, you’re never alone again. Poppy will happily become your tiny shadow, following you from room to room and always wanting to be close. Her loyalty runs deep.

Poppy would do best with older, dog-savvy children who understand that little dogs deserve big respect. She can live with another dog, but everyone should know from day one that Poppy plans to be CEO of the household.

She’s house-trained and does best with a consistent routine. If the weather is miserable or she has to wait too long, she may have the occasional accident.

Poppy recently had dental surgery and is feeling fabulous with her fresh smile. She’s healthy, happy, and ready for her next chapter.
If you’re looking for a pint-sized companion with a huge personality, endless loyalty, and just the right amount of Chihuahua spice, Poppy may be your perfect match.

At her vet check, Pop Tart's liver enzymes were found to be elevated. While an abdominal ultrasound showed no issues, adopter will need to monitor her values in the future.

Pop Tart is up to date on core vaccinations, microchipped and is spayed.

Duncan is a smart, loyal, and delightfully playful pup who made the journey all the way from Antigua to find his forever home! He brings the perfect blend of easygoing island vibes and energetic puppy charm.

Duncan is a social but quiet guy who loves his people. When he isn't enjoying a cozy nap, you can find him doing zoomies or playing with his furry foster sisters.
Like many puppies, Duncan can be a little stubborn when he doesn't get his way. His social boundaries are a work in progress, but with consistent guidance, a routine and training, his stubborn side will easily give way to his sweet personality.

Duncan is doing great with house training! He will sit at the patio door to go out. Sometimes he needs encouragement but overall has few accidents. He is a puppy so you still need to keep an eye on him! He’s also fantastic on leash! He takes cues from other dogs, doesn't pull, and shows no leash reactivity toward passing dogs. He is a bit of a "street cleaner," so you'll just need to keep an eye on what he tries to pick up on walks.

Duncan sleeps quietly in his crate overnight (with just an early morning whine to let you know it's bathroom time) and settles well when his humans are out of the house. He loves food, which makes training a breeze! He has already mastered "sit" and "wait" before mealtime.

Duncan is a joy to host and would be a wonderful addition to almost any household. He would thrive in a home committed to continuing his puppy training, establishing mealtime boundaries, and giving him plenty of affection.

Whether you have another dog, a cat, or are looking for a loyal sidekick, Duncan is ready to bring endless love and island warmth to your family.

Duncan is up to date on core vaccinations, microchipped and will be adopted out on a neuter contract.
