🦅 Found a bird of prey chick on the ground? Please call the Wildlife Helpline at 780-914-4118 before intervening.

If you find a young hawk, falcon, eagle, owl, or vulture out of the nest, make note of the bird’s precise location and contact the helpline for guidance.

Keep in mind: the bird may be a “brancher” — a young raptor that has naturally left the nest but is not yet able to fly. These juveniles can look nearly adult-sized but still have fluffy down feathers.

Not sure how old the bird is? Take a photo and call the helpline so advisors can help assess the situation.

⚠️ Caution: Parent birds can be extremely protective and may dive bomb people who get too close. Keep your distance until advised otherwise.

It is extremely important that any wild animal collected is brought to proper care as soon as possible. Do not attempt to treat wildlife yourself. WILDNorth is specially equipped to provide expert care to wildlife in need. Please also remember that most wild animals are protected by law, and keeping them without a permit could result in prosecution.

🦌 Found a fawn alone? Please don’t assume it’s abandoned.

During the first weeks of life, it is completely normal for a doe to leave her fawn alone for long periods while she searches for food. Newborn fawns have very little scent and natural camouflage, helping protect them from predators while they lie quietly and wait for mom to return.

A few important things to remember:

• Keep children and pets a safe distance away if you find a fawn in your yard. The mother is usually nearby and will often move the fawn within a few hours.
• The doe may avoid returning while people are present.
• A mother deer will NOT reject her fawn because it smells like humans. She will move it to safety when she feels it is safe to do so.

⚠️ If you see a fawn wandering alone, crying/bleating repeatedly, or obviously injured, contact:

📞 WILDNorth: 780-914-4118
📞 Alberta Fish & Wildlife: 310-0000

The best way to help wildlife is often to give them space. 💚

🌷 Spring is here — and so are more roaming cats.

As the weather warms up, we see a big increase in cats wandering farther from home, slipping out open doors, or getting lost while exploring. A microchip is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help lost pets make it back to their families safely. 🐾

Even indoor cats can escape unexpectedly, and collars can fall off. A registered microchip provides permanent identification that shelters and veterinary clinics can scan quickly.

If your pet is already microchipped, now is a great time to make sure your contact information is up to date. If they aren’t chipped yet, spring is the perfect time to book an appointment.

Let’s help more pets get home where they belong. ❤️

Mental Health Week is a time to recognize the many forms support can take—and for some, that support walks on four legs. 🐾

Psychiatric service dogs are highly trained to assist individuals living with conditions like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Major Depressive Disorder. They do more than provide comfort—they perform life-changing tasks like interrupting panic attacks, grounding their handler during distress, and creating space in overwhelming environments.

They are not pets. They are working partners, trained to help their handler navigate daily life safely and with dignity.

This Mental Health Week, let’s remember:
💚 Respect working dogs—don’t distract or pet without permission
💚 Be patient and understanding in public spaces
💚 Recognize that not all disabilities are visible

Support comes in many forms—and every one of them deserves respect.

Mental Health Week is a reminder that those who care for our animals are struggling too. 🐾

The reality in veterinary medicine is hard to ignore:
• 1 in 6 veterinarians has considered su***de
• Veterinarians are up to 4x more likely to die by su***de than the general population
• Female veterinarians are 3.5x more at risk, and male veterinarians over 2x

Behind every appointment is a team—veterinarians and veterinary technicians—carrying emotional weight, compassion fatigue, and relentless pressure.

Kindness matters more than you think.
💚 A little patience
💚 A little understanding
💚 A little gratitude

Because your words, your tone, and your empathy can make a difference in someone’s hardest day.

Let’s take care of the people who dedicate their lives to caring for our animals.
