For example, if every time you walk past your dog's food bowl, you drop in a piece of chicken or another high-value treat, your approach can start to predict something good!
The same idea can apply to toys, chews, and other valued items. By consistently adding something better or equally valuable, we can help change how dogs feel about people approaching their treasures. 🐾

Resource guarding isn't about being "dominant" or "stubborn."
It's rooted in a concern about losing access to something important, to the dog.
Food, toys, resting spots, and even people can become valuable resources.
Understanding the why behind the behaviour is the first step toward helping. 🐾

A growl is communication!
When dogs growl, they're sharing important information about how they're feeling.
Punishing a growl doesn't address the underlying concern, it may simply remove the warning signal.
Instead, ask:
🐾 What is my dog trying to communicate?
🐾 What made them uncomfortable?
🐾 How can I help them feel safer?
🐾 The goal isn't to stop communication—it's to understand it. 🐾
