Training your dog may seems hard and frustrating at first, however teaching your dog good manners and tricks is fun for you, for your dog, and for your potential audience!
Here are some reasons why we should all put a bit more effort into training our dog;
1- It develops patience
At first, we often feel frustrated or we loss our patience, raise our voice or use coercion. Its normal, we are humans, but our dog is not pleased and it might affect our relationship with it on the long run. Remember that we should just “be in the moment” rather than expecting performances.
2- It’s fun for both of you!
If you end your session on a positive note you and your pup will walk away cheerful and satisfied. Just like a dad playing hockey with his kid, you shouldn’t be all over him expecting performance but rather bonding and have fun! Just like a kid, if a dog feels pressure, it won’t enjoy itself
3- It will increase your dog’s confidence
Shortly after starting teaching your dog tricks, you will notice that your dog will show signs of confidence, an interest in training, and an overall enthusiasm that you had not seen before. Your dog will feel like it’s doing something that pleases you, hence it will know he/she’s a good boy/girl.
4- It helps your dog with distraction
Your dog will learn to work with distractions, but if you consistently reward your dog for watching you and listening for your cues, soon your dog will pay much less attention to extraneous stimuli in any setting when you ask him to focus.
5- It lets out your dog’s excess energy
Many dogs who are bored will display undesirable behaviors, such as chewing or barking, that could put them out of house and home. This energy can be put to good use. Redirecting your dog’s excess energy into fun tricks, will likely make him increase the behaviors that make you happy.
