So your horse just got vaccinated - what can you expect? 🐴
Vaccination is one of the best and most cost-effective ways to prevent many infectious diseases in your horse. Vaccines are highly effective at stimulating the immune system and elicit an immune response that will result in protection against specific diseases. This internal defense system continues to build and remains strong for a period of time, acting as a memory to protect your horse if they are exposed to these diseases later on.
The immunization process has an impact on the way some animals, and people for that matter, feel after receiving a vaccine. As a result of this stimulation of the immune system, it is not uncommon for horses to experience mild and short-term effects shortly after vaccination.
A certain amount of mild swelling, fever or stiffness can be a normal immune response to a vaccine in any species. If you are concerned your horse had an abnormal response, contact us and we can report the event to the company if it's abnormal. We may also recommend medication at the time of future vaccines to lessen the reaction.
