🎃👻 Happy Halloween from Staples Animal Hospital!

Halloween can be full of costumes, treats, and spooky fun, but remember that the excitement can feel a little different for our pets.

Keep candy safely out of reach, watch open doors during trick-or-treating, and make sure costumes are comfortable and only worn while supervised.

We hope you and your pets have a safe, fun, and wonderfully spooky Halloween! 🐶🐱🐾

🎃👻 Halloween is almost here!

While it's a fun night for us, it can bring a few extra hazards (and stresses!) for our pets.

Keep these Halloween safety tips in mind:

🍫 Keep chocolate, candy, gum and wrappers safely out of reach.

🚪 Watch the door! With trick-or-treaters coming and going, even pets who don't normally try to escape can slip outside.

🏷️ Make sure your pet's ID tag and microchip information are up to date — just in case.

🔔 If your pet is nervous about strangers, costumes or the doorbell, set them up in a comfortable, quiet room away from the action.

👗 If your pet is wearing a costume, make sure they can comfortably see, breathe, walk and move — and never leave them unattended while wearing it.

Have a safe and happy Halloween from the Staples Animal Hospital team! 🎃🐾

🐈‍⬛🖤 Black cats deserve nothing but LOVE!
Meet Piper!

For centuries, black cats have been surrounded by myths and superstitions — but we think the only thing “unlucky” about a black cat is not having one in your life. 😉

Black cats are just as loving, playful, goofy and unique as cats of every other colour.

This spooky season, we're celebrating all of the beautiful mini panthers out there! 🖤🐾

Have a black cat at home? We would LOVE to see them — share a photo in the comments! 📸

🐾 Age is part of their story.

As pets get older, their health and everyday needs can change, sometimes in ways that are easy to overlook.

Regular veterinary checkups can help monitor changes in mobility, weight, appetite, behaviour, dental health, and other areas that may affect their comfort and quality of life.

With attentive care and support along the way, senior pets can continue enjoying the routines, people, and moments they love. 🐱❤️

🐱 Trust what you notice.

You know your pet’s normal habits better than anyone, so small changes in their appetite, energy, behaviour, bathroom habits, or daily routine are worth paying attention to.

Even if a change seems minor, sharing what you’ve noticed with your veterinarian can provide helpful information about your pet’s health.

When something feels different, don’t hesitate to bring it up at your pet’s next visit. 🐾💚

🐾 Small clues can say a lot about your pet’s health.

Pets can’t tell us when something feels different, and some changes may be easy to miss at home.

Routine checkups give your veterinary team an opportunity to assess your pet’s overall health, notice changes over time, and discuss anything that may need a closer look.

Even when your pet seems happy and healthy, regular veterinary visits are an important part of supporting their health throughout every stage of life. 🐶🐱💚

Have questions about your pet? We’re always happy to help! 🐾💚

Whether it’s about nutrition, behaviour, dental care, or changes in their everyday routine, asking questions can help you better understand what your pet needs.

Every pet is different, and your veterinary team can provide guidance based on their individual health, age, lifestyle, and needs.

Never hesitate to bring up your questions or concerns at your pet’s next visit. 🐶🐱

🦟❤️ HEARTWORM PREVENTION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER.

Heartworm disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Unfortunately, treatment options for dogs diagnosed with heartworm are becoming more limited, making prevention more important than ever.

We want to remind our clients that heartworm prevention should continue for the entire prevention season — June through November.

🍂 Even though the weather is beginning to cool, don't stop your pet's prevention early!

Heartworm preventatives work by targeting immature heartworms your pet may have been exposed to during the previous weeks. This is why continuing through November is so important, even when mosquito activity appears to have slowed down.

And remember — parasite season isn't over when summer ends!

🕷️ Ticks can remain active at temperatures around 0°C and above, which means tick exposure is still possible throughout the fall and even during mild periods in the winter.

Please make sure your pet receives all of their scheduled doses through November and speak with our team if you're unsure when their next dose is due.

When treatment options are limited, prevention matters more than ever. ❤️ 🐾
