Kelowna Veterinary Hospital

Kelowna Veterinary Hospital Modern Medicine, Caring Compassion. Small animals and exotics welcome. We provide a well run hospital that is comfortable and safe for your pets.

The Kelowna Veterinary Hospital is a full-service hospital committed to providing professional care and service combining old-world values with up-to-date procedures and medicine. We have a caring staff that will serve your needs and that of your pets with knowledge and compassion. Established in 1946 and re-built in its present location by Dr Coughlin in 1981, this is Kelowna's first and oldest v

eterinary hospital. Recently Ellen Nicklassen (who has been with the clinic for 18 years!) has taken over and is busy revamping the clinic to serve you better! All of our staff receive continuing education every year to ensure that our health care is current with new ideas and research.

🦌 Before moving a wild animal, please call us first.

We have recently had several well-meaning people bring wild animals into the hospital because they were worried about them. We truly appreciate the kindness behind these actions, but many of these animals are healthy and behaving completely normally.

Removing wildlife from where they were found can cause significant stress, separate babies from their parents and, in some cases, seriously reduce their chance of survival.

Often, the best help you can provide is peace, space and time to rest. Please do not handle, relocate, feed or bring a wild animal to the hospital without first speaking with us or a wildlife professional—unless you are in immediate danger yourself.

Interior Wildlife Rehabilitation Society has some excellent species-specific information to help you understand when an animal may genuinely need assistance:

https://interiorwildlife.ca/mammals/

When in doubt, please call us before taking action. We know you are only trying to help, and a quick conversation can make sure we are doing what is truly best for the animal. 💚

As most of you know, Kelowna Veterinary Hospital is incredibly proud to be Kelowna’s oldest veterinary hospital. We are fiercely proud to remain independently owned, and we’re equally passionate about supporting the amazing local businesses that make our community so special.

We were lucky enough to work with the fantastic team at Blue Sky Inspired who created this beautiful sign for some of our very willing patients. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

If you’re looking for high-quality signage and exceptional service, we can’t recommend them enough.

This isn’t sponsored—we simply love supporting great local businesses. Kelowna is stronger when we support one another. ❤️

🐾 Meet the Team Monday 🐾

This Monday, we’re excited to introduce Nina, one of our wonderful Client Care Advocates! 💙

Originally from Vienna, Austria, Nina grew up surrounded by horses and small pets, sparking a lifelong love for animals. After graduating with honours from business school, she made the move to Kelowna in 2015, bringing her compassionate nature and friendly smile with her.

Since joining our team in November 2024, Nina has been dedicated to making every client and patient feel welcomed and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll likely find her horseback riding, cheering on her son at hockey games, or exploring local trails with her dog.

We’re so lucky to have Nina as part of the KVH family! Be sure to say hello next time you’re in the clinic. 💙🐾

Look who came to visit us today! 🐶💙

We had two adorable little visitors stop by the clinic today for some extra love from the KVH team! ❤️

Early socialization is such an important part of a puppy’s development, and meeting lots of new people in a positive environment helps them grow into happy, confident dogs. Safe to say these two soaked up all the cuddles they could get!

A big thank you to Kelowna Veterinary Care Foundation for sharing these sweet pups with us today. 🐾

P.S. These two cuties are still looking for their forever homes!

☀️ Hot paws, happy walks! 🐾

With these summer temperatures, pavement can become much hotter than the air outside. Before heading out, try the barefoot test—if it's too hot for your feet, it's too hot for your dog's paws!

🐶 Help protect those sensitive paw pads by:
• 🥾 Using dog booties for extra protection
• 🌅 Walking during the cooler morning or evening hours
• 🌳 Sticking to grass or shaded paths whenever possible
• 💧 Bringing water to keep your pup hydrated

A little planning goes a long way in keeping your furry friend safe and comfortable this summer! ❤️

⚠️ Trigger Warning: An honest look at what we experience in veterinary medicine every day.

Every single day, we have conversations that stay with us long after the clinic doors close.

We sit with families as they hear that their beloved pet has kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, cancer, or another serious illness. One of the hardest things we hear is:

"If only we'd known sooner."

The truth is, many of these conditions develop quietly. Our pets are incredibly good at hiding illness, and by the time we see obvious signs, they have often been unwell for much longer than anyone realized.

At Kelowna Veterinary Hospital, we care deeply about every patient and every family who walks through our doors. We know that cost can sometimes be the reason preventative testing gets delayed, and we never want finances to stand in the way of giving pets the best chance possible.

This isn't a promotion. It's something we've chosen to do because we believe early detection shouldn't be out of reach for the families who trust us with their pets.

For a limited time, we're offering these preventative diagnostic tests at our cost in the hope that more pets can benefit from early screening and earlier intervention.

🐾 Wellness Blood Panel – $110
A comprehensive screening of organ function, blood cells, and early signs of disease.

🐾 Wellness Blood Panel + Urinalysis – $165
Provides a more complete picture of kidney health, diabetes, urinary tract health, and hydration.

🐾 Wellness Blood Panel + Urinalysis + F***l Testing– $200
Our most comprehensive preventative screen, checking internal health while also looking for intestinal parasites that can affect both pets and people.

These tests are especially valuable for senior pets, but they can also detect hidden disease in younger animals before symptoms appear.

We can't prevent every illness. But sometimes, we can find it earlier.

Earlier answers often mean more treatment options, more time, and more quality of life with the companions who mean everything to us.

If your pet has an upcoming appointment, simply let us know before your visit if you'd like to add preventative diagnostics so we can schedule a little extra time. If you're including f***l testing, please bring a fresh stool sample with you to your appointment.

Because they can't tell us when something is wrong. ❤️

One step closer to our dream. 🌱🐔❤️

This little farm has become so much more than we ever imagined. Every coop we've built, every egg collected, and every milestone reached brings us one step closer to creating a sustainable farm and a mixed animal veterinary hospital that will serve our community for generations to come.

Our hens are now laying around 10 dozen fresh eggs every day, and we'd love your support. 🥚

Fresh, washed, refrigerated eggs are available for $7.50 per dozen from Kelowna Veterinary Hospital.

Thank you for believing in our vision and supporting local. Every dozen purchased helps us continue building something truly special—for our animals, our community, and the future. ❤️
