Let’s talk about Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

The bacteria Rickettsia rickettsii is what causes RMSF, and is transmitted by a tick bite from an infected American dog tick. RMSF is a very rare, dangerous and fast-acting tick-borne disease not typically seen in Ontario.

This past July, a dog named Tobi passed away from RMSF after visiting Long Point. Five dogs in Ontario have now tested positive for RMSF, four of which have a history of visiting Long Point.

If your family is visiting the lake, be cautious and be sure to perform regular tick checks on family and pets, even if they are on tick prevention. If anyone becomes sick following a tick bite, seek medical attention immediately.

Warning: Sensitive content (animal abuse)

This is a tough post to make. These puppies were found by one of the rescue we work with, Redemption Paws. Redemption Paws saved them and brought them to us for care and temporary shelter while they found them fosters. Their momma, pictured in the last photo, has passed away.

We are happy to report that these pups are healthy and already in loving homes. One of which has been adopted by one of our very own, Savannah. We had the honour of taking care of these babies over the long weekend while they waited for their foster families.

We wanted to showcase the fun times they had in our homes and at the clinic. They are full of love and light and it shows with every interaction.

We are grateful to for giving them their second chance and for trusting us to help take care of them.

This is Linda! She’s a young rescue chihuahua from Mexico.

Did you know that Linda means “cute” in Spanish? Her parents thought the name would be very fitting, and they were right! We loved having Linda in clinic today :)

Serena is here to tell you that pets are welcome on our furniture around here! Make sure your pet feels at home by letting them relax in the waiting room how they want.

Also, note her side eye for withholding treats 😅🫣
