When you bring your pet in for an exam with one of our doctors, we are establishing a VCPR (Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship).

The VCPR is the legal and ethical foundation required for our doctors to diagnose, treat, or prescribe medication for your animal.

Tick-borne diseases are becoming more common in Ontario, which is why we test for diseases like Ehrlichia during your dog’s heartworm and tick test.

Prevention, routine screening, and early treatment all play an important role in protecting your pet.

If you remove a tick from your dog, submit it at etick.ca

We talk about Lyme Disease a lot, but there are multiple tick-borne diseases in Ontario.

Rocky Mountain spotted fever is one that is on the rise. It is transmitted by infected ticks, most commonly by the American dog tick which is very common in our area.

In June 2025, there were a cluster of RMSF cases among dogs with exposures at Long Point. American dog ticks collected from the Long Point area tested positive for the bacteria that transmits RMSF. In August 2025, Public Health became aware of two confirmed human cases of RMSF, both likely to have acquired the infection from Long Point.

Signs and symptoms of RMSF in pets include fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes, muscle/joint pain and GI upset.

Ticks can sneak their way into our homes on our pets. Keeping your pet up to date on tick prevention, also protects you!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠💜

Did you know veterinary medicine carries one of the highest rates of burnout and compassion fatigue. Multiple studies show that veterinarians have a su***de risk that is over three times higher than the general population.

Behind every visit is a dedicated team balancing emotion, medicine and the love we share for all animals.

A little kindness goes a long way.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! We hope you have a relaxing day 💕
