Not every pet gets chosen first. Some are older, have medical needs, look a little different, or come with emotional scars — but they are just as loving, loyal, and deserving of a forever home. 🐶🐱💕

This week, we shine a light on those often overlooked:
🐾 Senior pets
🐾 Pets with disabilities or special needs
🐾 Pets with "different" appearances
🐾 Shy or traumatized animals
🐾 Certain breeds with unfair stereotypes

🐾 Today, as we remember 9/11, we honor not only the brave men and women who sacrificed so much, but also the animals who stood by their side.

More than 300 search and rescue dogs worked tirelessly at Ground Zero, alongside their handlers, bringing comfort, hope, and help in the darkest of days. Therapy dogs, service animals, and even everyday pets gave unconditional love to families and first responders who were grieving and exhausted.

They remind us of the power of loyalty, compassion, and courage—qualities that transcend species.

🎒🐾 Back to School = Back to Routine (for the Pets, Too!) 🐾🎒

As the kids head back to class and the house gets quieter, your furry family members might be feeling the shift — and not always in a good way. 🐶🐱💔

Changes in routine can cause stress and separation anxiety in pets, especially dogs and cats used to having their favorite humans around all summer long.

🚨 Watch for signs of anxiety:
• Pacing or whining
• Destructive behavior
• Loss of appetite
• Excessive barking or meowing
• Hiding or withdrawal

🐾 Help ease the transition with these tips:
✅ Stick to a consistent schedule for feeding, walks, and playtime
✅ Leave interactive toys or treat puzzles to keep them busy
✅ Try calming aids (pheromone diffusers, anxiety vests, etc.)
✅ Practice short separations to build independence
✅ Give them extra love and reassurance when you're home 🧡

Prairie Animal Health Centre: “CREATING GREATER HEALTH FOR A GREATER LIFE” is not just a statement on the wall, but a belief at our core. We believe that health is the greatest gift we can give our pets. We understand that your pet is more than just a pet, they are a member of your family and that they have special place in your heart. We also know pet ownership can be scary. Knowing when to get help can sometimes be a difficult decision. We want you to know that advice is always free. With our knowledge and your love, we make the perfect pet family.

Our team of consists of three veterinarians and five veterinary technologists that are dedicated to working alongside you to help your pet have the greatest life possible.

Here are just a few of things that our veterinarians are doing to help your pet reach their greatest life potential. Dr. Carol Ross has taken over 50 hours of post graduate training in dentistry and orthopedic surgery . Dr. Karly Lanz is a certified Acupuncturist and certified in TUI-NA and is working to complete her herbal medicine certification. Dr. Jeremy Ross has completed several post graduate workshops in dentistry and has been a life long member of the American Assosication of Equine Practitioners. Their dedication to continued learning in addition to PAHC investing in high quality diagnostic tools will lead you will to find that Prairie Animal Health Centre is right for you.
