When faced with an angry cat, it's essential to approach them with patience and understanding. Often, gentle gestures like slow blinking can convey trust. Remember, every feline is different—observe their body language closely. Creating a calm atmosphere with soft music or dim lighting might also help soothe their nerves. If you have a kitty with a high temperament, please be sure to tell us when scheduling their appointment at 780-461-0629.

Did you know that Beagles’ ears help their noses to smell? When drawn out, a Beagle’s ears reach the end of their nose. Their long ears actually help to catch scent particles and keep them close to their nose, which allows them to take in as much information as possible. Interesting, right? For more information on care for Beagles and other dog breeds, give us a call at 780-461-0629.

Large breed dogs with deep, narrow chests are at higher risk of bloat, also known as gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV). When a dog bloats, its stomach twists and fills with gas, which can cut off blood supply to the stomach and spleen. Bloat commonly happens when a dog ingests large amounts of food or water too quickly. Know the warning signs and be prepared in case of an emergency. Contact us at 780-461-0629 with any questions.

You’ve likely heard that humans have a daily fluid intake recommendation, but did you know that there are also recommendations for dogs? To find your pupper’s ideal water intake, you’ll need to know their weight. A dog should drink 1 ounce of fluids per pound of body weight. So a 5lb Chihuahua would only drink 5 ounces of water a day whereas a 110lb Great Dane should drink 110 ounces of water daily! It sounds like a lot of water, because it is! There will be some situations where a dog will certainly need more water than this equation indicates so be sure to contact us with any of your dog hydration questions.

Also known as the zoomies, both cats and dogs experience FRAPs, but different circumstances are more likely to trigger the behavior in one species than in the other. Feline FRAPs most often occur at dawn and dusk, though activities like grooming and using the litter box may inspire them at any hour. When does your pet have its FRAPs?
