Guinness' Adoption Story ❤️

Guinness' journey to finding a home didn't start out in the typical manner. In November 2019, Laura spotted an injured pup hobbling around her neighbourhood and alerted the Animal Care & Control Centre - Edmonton (ACCC). Needing surgery for a broken leg, he was transferred into the care of the Edmonton Humane Society, where Laura was able to reunite with him.

"I went to visit Guinness at EHS post-surgery and ended up adopting him because he was such a good boy," Laura remembers.

Guinness' leg injury resulted in an amputation, but years later, he's not letting that slow him down. "He’s still so fast at running and swims amazing!" Laura tells us.

When asked why Laura chose Guinness to be a part of her family, the answer is simple: "I love Guinness for his sweet eyes and love for couch snuggles. He’s so loyal and has been my best friend since day one."

A heart-felt thank you to Laura for helping Guinness receive the medical care he so desperately needed, and then welcoming him into her home as if he had been there all along ❤️

We wish this pair many more happy years of cuddles and adventures!

We're back with another Feel Good Foster Friday ❤️

Today we’re shining the spotlight on Hulu 🐱💛 — a sweet kitty who has since been adopted and is now living his best life as Felix!

Felix spent several weeks in a loving home with his foster parent, Ayla, while healing from injuries. During that time, Ayla saw an amazing transformation. When he first arrived, Felix was struggling to fully relax. But little by little, he began to settle in.

As the days went on, he started to feel more like himself. He became more playful, more independent and started showing his true personality in ways he hadn’t before. “Being an animal’s safe space after adversity is always a good feeling,” shares Ayla 🥰

Fostering has had a huge impact on Ayla’s life. She says “it has changed every aspect of my life for the better” and encourages anyone who has been thinking of opening their home to an animal in need to consider becoming a foster.

When asked what she’d say to someone feeling unsure about fostering, Ayla's answer was simple yet insightful: “You have to go into it with the mindset of ‘I’m changing so many animals’ lives for the better.’" 🐾

While our adoption gallery is under renovation, fosters help us maintain capacity and support animals waiting for their perfect homes. From day trips to sleepovers and weekend getaways, even a short break from the shelter can have a huge impact. Interested in helping an animal like Felix on their journey home?

Magnus' Adoption Story ❤️

When Danielle and their family showed up at the Edmonton Humane Society in January 2017, they were still healing from the loss of one of their resident kitties, but felt a pull to go and see if they could potentially find another match.

"We lost our Mitsy months before and we, and our other cat, were very sad," Danielle remembers. "We wanted to give our love to another animal and give them the best life possible!" 🥰

The family took their time visiting with each of the available felines, but it didn't seem as though they were going to make the connection they were hoping to. "We walked through and visited the cats but none of them chose us," Danielle says.

But just as they were about to leave, fate intervened ✨ "We were walking out and forgot about one of the rooms. We walked in and there he was. As soon as we saw him, we knew he was the one. He was the only one left from the litter there. The rest is history!" Danielle tells us.

Now, Magnus has settled into his new home and it's as if he was always a part of the family 🏠

"He tells me when it's treat time and supper time, even when I sleep in on the weekend. He howls like a dog and he gets insulted when you close the bathroom door," Danielle laughs.

We're so glad Magnus was able to find his perfect people, and we wish their family many more years of love and kitty snuggles ❤️
