❄️🥶 Freezing rain, icy roads… and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

If you’re drinking tonight, don’t drive. 🚫🍷

Your dog won’t understand why you didn’t make it home—they’ll just be waiting. 🐾❤️

Celebrate safely. Plan a ride. Stay warm. Make it home to the ones who love you… two-legged and four-legged. 🐶💖

🎄✨ Merry Christmas from all of us at On Point Pet Sitting ✨🎄

As many gather with loved ones today, we want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank those who are still working through the holidays — from police officers and nurses, to first responders, and fellow pet sitters.

Your dedication doesn’t pause for Christmas, and neither does the care you provide to your communities, patients, and animals. We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re grateful for the sacrifices you make so others can enjoy the season with peace of mind.

Wishing everyone a safe, warm, and Merry Christmas — whether you’re at home, on shift, or out caring for those who depend on you. ❤️🐾

Over the weekend, we heard from a pet owner who was suddenly trying to find care just days before Christmas after their original sitter became unavailable.

Unfortunately, this happens more often than people realize—especially during peak times like Christmas, long weekends, and school breaks.

Here’s the key difference pet owners often don’t see upfront:

Hobby sitters
• May pet sit on the side
• Often don’t block off holidays in advance
• Can change plans last minute
• Typically don’t have backup systems in place

Professional pet care providers
• Schedule holidays months in advance
• Commit contractually to booked services
• Plan staffing and coverage ahead of time
• Build pricing around reliability, experience, and accountability

When you book professional care, you’re not just paying for time—you’re paying for commitment, planning, and peace of mind, especially when demand is high.

Holiday pet care isn’t something that can always be filled last minute. This is why we strongly encourage clients to book early and choose providers who treat pet care as their profession, not a side hobby.

Your pets deserve consistent, reliable care—even over the holidays. 🎄🐾

On December 17th, my family experienced a sudden medical emergency. It’s not the kind of phone call anyone ever wants to receive—especially in the middle of the night.

Today, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the amazing staff who stepped in without hesitation to help cover visits so I could be present for my family during a difficult moment. I’m also deeply thankful for the clients whose visits needed to be cancelled and who responded with such kindness, patience, and understanding.

Moments like this remind me how fortunate I am to work alongside such a compassionate team and supportive client community. Thank you, truly, for everything you do.

It may have been a cold week, but that hasn’t stopped Tony, Bella, or Baxter from bundling up in their coats and suspender booties for their walk adventures. These pups don’t let a little chill slow them down! 🐾🧣🐶

Some great tips on winter pet safety ❄️🐾

With the cold temperatures this week, the City of Edmonton - Local Government has activated its Extreme Weather Response ⚠️

Making sure animals stay warm and safe this winter season is an important part of pet guardianship — especially during extreme cold snaps. Our Winter Pet Safety Guide can help you spot signs of distress and keep furry friends comfortable in and out of the elements.

When the roads get rough, we don’t slow down — we suit up. ❄️🐾

Just like this sled dog team pushes through the elements, in-home pet care keeps moving no matter the weather.

While kennels stay in one place, we’re out there traveling from home to home, ensuring every pet gets the love, meals, meds, and comfort they rely on — even when the conditions are less than ideal.

Your pets are our responsibility, and we’ll brave the storm to make sure they’re cared for. ❤️🐶🐱

🎄 Heads up! On the evening of December 18th, our team will be gathering for a holiday dinner. Since we all work independently, it’s a rare and special chance for us to spend time together.

Thank you for understanding and flexibility during this time! ❤️

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Guardian Pet Cremation Services for their compassion and support during a very difficult time.

While one of our clients was away on vacation, their beloved pet passed away. Guardian handled everything with dignity, care, and kindness — they held onto her remains until the family could come home and say goodbye.

Thank you, Guardian, for the respect you show to every pet and every family you serve. 💙🐾

🎄 Cat-Proofing the Christmas Tree 🐱✨

For anyone preparing for the annual challenge of keeping curious cats out of the Christmas tree, here are a few commonly recommended strategies—plus what has worked in our home:

🟢 Give your cat time to explore the tree
A lot of cat owners find it helpful to set the tree up without ornaments for a few days. This lets cats investigate and lose interest before anything fragile goes on.

🟠 Use scents cats usually avoid
Citrus is a well-known deterrent for many cats. Lightly spraying the tree with orange essential oil can discourage climbing while also making the room smell festive. (Be sure to dilute essential oils properly and avoid overuse.)

🔗 Secure ornaments with twist ties
Twist-tying ornaments to branches is a popular method—both for pets and toddlers. It keeps ornaments from being easily batted off or carried away.

🧵 Place the tree on carpet or use a thick tree skirt
If an ornament does get nudged loose, carpet or a padded skirt helps prevent shattering and makes cleanup safer.

These small adjustments can make a big difference in keeping both your holiday décor and your pets safe. If you’ve tried other techniques that worked, feel free to add them—cat-proofing is definitely a team effort! 🐾🎄
