🐾 Happy Wednesday — or as we call it around here, Wiggle Wednesday! 🐾

Did you know we have a different type of enrichment planned for each day of the week? It’s all part of keeping the animals in our care mentally stimulated, emotionally happy, and physically active.

Wiggle Wednesday is all about MOVEMENT and PLAY.

Think: catnip toys, track balls, laser pointers, tunnels for our bunnies, agility for the dogs, and automatic ball machines — anything to get those tails wagging, whiskers twitching, and noses bopping!

Right now, we’re running low on interactive toys and could use your help to build up our supply.

🧸 Here’s what we’re looking for:
✨ Laser pointers (manual or automatic)
💧 Pet water fountains
🎾 Puzzle feeders & chase toys
🐾 Agility items, flirt poles & automatic ball launchers
🐰 Tunnels, chew toys, and enrichment gear for bunnies

If you have new or gently-used interactive toys to spare, we’d be so grateful. Donations can be dropped off at the BC SPCA East Kootenay Community Animal Centre.

These two beautiful cats have already been through more than most — rescued from a home with 82 cats, Maddie and Nero clung to each other through it all. And now? They're ready to write a much happier chapter… together. 🏡💕

🧶 Maddie is a stunning muted tortie Persian with a sweet, shy spirit and a love for soft blankets and quiet company.
☁️ Nero is a grey Persian mix with big eyes, soft fur, and a heart that belongs to Maddie — always by her side, always keeping her brave.

They’re both a little timid at first, but give them time and you’ll see: they adore people. Maddie leans in for gentle pets, Nero follows her lead. Their bond is deep, sweet, and unbreakable — you’ll always find them curled up together, tails tucked, whiskers twitching in sync.

🌸🐾 Meet Chloe 🐾🌸

1 year old • Full of heart • Still figuring things out 🐶💕

Chloe is one of those dogs who feels deeply. She’s soft in spirit, sweet to the core, and just wants to know she’s safe. She’s the kind of girl who checks in with you often—asking with her eyes, “Is this okay?” and “Am I doing it right?” And with a little reassurance, she’ll try her absolute best every time. 🥺💖

She really shines with a handler she trusts. Especially when meeting new people (men, in particular take her time). But with kindness, consistency, and patience, Chloe learns that the world doesn’t have to be scary—and that’s when her true sweetness starts to show.

With other dogs, Chloe is respectful and thoughtful. She reads the room like a pro and always tries to match the other dog’s playstyle. If they want zoomies, she’s in. If they want chill vibes, she’s happy to just sniff and hang. She’s a polite queen like that. 👑🐕

Meeting dogs through barriers? Not her fave. But out on a walk, side by side, with some guidance and sniffy breaks? That’s her comfort zone. 🌿

Chloe isn’t the dog who’ll jump into your arms right away. She’s the one who’ll slowly, quietly, choose you—and that kind of love? It’s the kind that sticks. 💫

She’s not looking for perfect. Just someone patient, gentle, and ready to meet her where she is.

🌟 Foster Parent Volunteer Appreciation 🌟

Our foster parents are the unsung heroes of rescue, and today, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible work they do. These dedicated individuals open their hearts and homes to animals of all shapes, sizes, breeds, and species, providing them with the love, care, and patience they need until they are ready for adoption. 🏡💖

Many of the animals they welcome are facing serious behavioral and medical challenges, and it’s with unflinching dedication that our foster team helps them overcome these hurdles. Whether it's healing from trauma, learning new behaviors, or just getting the TLC they need, our fosters step up to the plate without hesitation, giving these animals a second chance at life.

We cannot do rescue without these extraordinary volunteers, and we are beyond grateful to have such a talented and brave group of people in our corner. Tanis, Heather, Cathy, Mikey, Mena & Brian, Caitlyn, Christy, Izzy, Nancy & Kent, Traceylee, and so many others—thank you for being the foundation of our rescue efforts. Your dedication and love make the world a better place for these animals.
