A year ago, I had to make the tough decision to sell my horse, Slim Shady. I was pregnant, and we knew we needed the money to buy our acreage. Life works in strange ways, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason.

His new owner had fallen in love with him from the very beginning and had asked multiple times if she could come try him. After a couple of months — and after finding out I was pregnant — I finally reached out and invited her to meet him. She flew all the way from Kelowna, and Slim was exactly the horse she had been searching for.

Horses sometimes lead us to the hardest decisions… but selling Slim gave me the chance to focus on my baby and to build the life we dreamed of on our acreage. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing him thrive with his new owner — running barrels and now ranch riding down in Arizona. I got Slim when he was just a few months old, raised him, and trained him over the six years we shared together. Watching him shine in his new chapter makes my heart so full. ❤️🐎

Remembrance Day Horse Camp at Matter’s Equine 🐴❤️
We were honoured to welcome a veteran who shared about the vital role horses played during the war. We took a moment of silence to remember and honour the soldiers who served.

Today, we remember and honour the brave soldiers, both human and equine, who served with courage and heart. 🕊️

During the wars, over 8 million horses carried soldiers, pulled supplies, and gave everything without hesitation. They stood side by side with our heroes, often never returning home. 🐴❤️

Let us pause in gratitude for all who served, two-legged and four-legged, and the freedom they helped secure.

The days are still mild, but the wind and evenings are getting chilly, especially at the barn!

Even if it feels warm when you leave the city, it can be much cooler and windier once you arrive here.

Starting now, please make sure to dress for winter riding:
🧥 Warm winter jacket
❄️ Light snow pants or/and long johns
🧤 Gloves
🧦 Warm socks
👢 Small winter boots or cowboy boots with heated socks.

We HIGHLY recommend investing in heated gloves, heated socks, and a heated vest, they’re inexpensive and truly a game changer for staying comfortable during lessons.

It’s your responsibility to dress appropriately for your lesson (or your child’s lesson). It’s always better to have too many layers than not enough, so you can fully enjoy your riding time in comfort! 🐴💨
