Supporters, we need your help! Earlier this month, we announced that MEOW Foundation submitted a grant proposal, Removing Barriers, Keeping Families Together, to the Field Law Community Fund Program. Supporters can help us receive funding by voting for our idea.
But what is our idea? Well, for many low-income Calgarians, the rising cost of veterinary care has created a significant financial barrier to responsible pet ownership. Families who want to do the right thing for their animals may simply be unable to afford preventative veterinary care.
Removing Barriers, Keeping Families Together is a 2027 initiative from MEOW Foundation designed to remove that barrier by providing subsidized spay and neuter surgeries through our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP).
Spaying and neutering is the most important form of prevention in animal welfare. It helps prevent unwanted litters before they occur, supports responsible pet ownership and reduces future demand and financial strain on shelters, rescue organizations and community resources. Unfortunately, for many families experiencing financial hardship, the cost of these procedures is simply out of reach.
A $2,000 investment from the Field Law Community Fund will create a dedicated pool of funding expected to further subsidize approximately 60–65 spay and neuter procedures for cats from approximately 55–60 Calgary households in 2027. Approved applicants contribute toward the cost based on financial need, while MEOW Foundation subsidizes the remaining amount through our SNAP program.
The impact will be immediate and measurable: funding received, subsidies provided, surgeries completed and Calgary households helped.
