๐Ÿพ Itโ€™s at Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward!
Weโ€™re ending the week with full hearts and empty kennelsโ€”because so many wonderful animals found their forever homes. Our generous community has come together and surprised us with some amazing gifts and donations! Itโ€™s been a week of wins and weโ€™re here to share them with you!

๐Ÿ’™ Eddie was surrendered to us a couple weeks ago due to no fault of his own. He was in good condition and already neutered, this allowed him to make his debut rather quickly! His striking good looks paired with an oh so sweet personality, we knew Eddie would begin a new life very soon! His new parents are wonderful! They met Eddie over several visits and brought his new sister in to make sure she approved. It was love at first sight, and another forever match made! Remember Macaroon who was adopted last week, well, she lives just down the street from Eddie and his new family, and we sense puppy playdates in their future! Congratulations!

๐Ÿ•บ The Good Times Line Dancers from Kenron Estates invited members of our team to a line dancing sesh earlier this week! We brought Bunny the big, bold and beautiful bully mix along for the ride and she made friends with everyone! This amazing group donated $1000 to help support the animals of HSHPE. They taught us a few moves while we were there too! We thank you so much for your generosity!

๐Ÿ˜Link was brought in through animal control mid month. He was held for his stray period but unfortunately wasnโ€™t claimed. Link was vaccinated, treated for parasites and neutered before heading home with his new dad! We love a short stay and are so happy to see Link start his forever! Congratulations to you both!

๐Ÿฅฐ Ellen attended volunteer orientation last week with her parents and had some great questions during training! She couldnโ€™t wait to chat with staff afterwards because she made catnip toys for the kitties and was hoping to deliver her gifts! All the cats approved and think Ellen is the puuur-fect volunteer! She recently helped out with the family garage sale and sold handmade bookmarks, bracelets and catnip toys. Ellen raised $50 for the animals here. Thank you for being a champion for the cats in our care!

๐Ÿ“ธ We had the very talented Dave Carnahan in to photograph animals for a very special paw-liday feature launching on December 1st. ๐ŸŽ„ The countdown to the 12 Strays of Christmas is on! We canโ€™t wait to share these stunning howli-day pictures with you!

๐Ÿ˜ฝ Iris arrived as a stray in June, she was brought to us by a member of the public who found this single, teeny tiny kitten all alone. She was only a few weeks old and needed help! Iris was placed in foster care where she grew big and strong. She suffered from some gastrointestinal issues and after weeks of treatment, and a diet tailored to her health she improved greatly! Once spayed, Iris was finally ready to head home with her new family! Congratulations!

๐Ÿคฉ Kim is spreading holiday cheer and brightening the lives of animals who are patiently waiting for their second chance. She stopped in with hand crafted bone, fish and carrot stockings she had made for the cats, dogs and rabbits! Meowy Christmas Kim!

๐Ÿถ Abby was adopted back in 2023 and unfortunately surrendered back earlier this month. She didnโ€™t show well in a kennel environment and would bark nervously at visitors. Itโ€™s important to remember, shelter/kennel behavior isnโ€™t how dogs behave once they have a chance to settle into home life, alongside a family willing to work with them. It takes patience to build a bond, and her new family recognized that. They were familiar with Abbyโ€™s breed and came in to meet her multiple times before they walked out the door with their new best friend! Congratulations to you all!

๐Ÿฅณ Bingo! We keep telling you, it PAYS to PLAY at HSHPE! We had 3 winners this past Tuesday! Rebecca and Karen each won $65 and Rylan was enjoying a fun date night and happened to win the $350 consolation prize! All first-time bingo players! Congratulations and thank you for supporting a great cause! Friendly reminder, there will be no TV Bingo at the shelter this Tuesday December 2nd due to an important Giving Tuesday event (but you can still play at home)! We look forward to welcoming you back on December 9th and wish you all the luck!

๐Ÿ˜ป Bridget came to us as a stray back in September. It appeared she was nursing but unfortunately no kittens were found. She was vaccinated, treated for parasites and once her milk dried up Bridget was spayed. She was adopted but wasnโ€™t getting along with other animals in the home and within a week was surrendered back into our care. Itโ€™s so important to allow animals who are overwhelmed with new experiences, a new home, and new furry friends the time they require to decompress. Introductions to existing pets and visitors should be very gradual and drawn out, giving your new pet a room of their own as they acclimate to their new life is the key to success. Slow and steady is how you can help ensure harmony among your pets. Thankfully Bridget was given another chance and here she is with her forever people! Congratulations and thank you for choosing to adopt!

โ›„๏ธ Enjoy a wonderful weekend! We hope to see you today or tomorrow between 12-4:30 to view adoptable animals! We have a wide array of amazing animals, waiting for someone to give them a second chance!

Meet Jag - The Playful Foodie with a Sense of Humor!
Jag is a 1.7-year-old male cat with a big personality and an even bigger appetite for fun (and snacks!). This silly, spirited boy knows how to keep himself entertained. His favorite hobby is watching โ€œbird TVโ€ from the window, and rumor has it he once tried to order pizza when given phone privileges during his shows, he swears it was an accident, but weโ€™re not so sure.
Chatty and social, Jag loves interacting with his people and has plenty of opinions heโ€™s happy to share throughout the day. He enjoys the company of other cats too, though he appreciates a slow, thoughtful introduction to make sure everyone gets along.
Curious, clever, and always ready for a feather toy chase, Jag brings a perfect mix of goofiness and affection. Heโ€™s the kind of cat who will keep you laughing, brighten your home with his playful antics, and maybe โ€œborrowโ€ your phone if youโ€™re not watching closely.
If youโ€™re looking for a fun-loving, conversation-starting companion who adds humor, warmth, and plenty of personality to your life, Jag just might be your perfect match! ๐Ÿงก
All cats and dogs available for adoption at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered.
Adoptions include bonus offers from our amazing partners: Renโ€™s Pets, Pet Valu Belleville, and PetSmart.
All animals at HSHPE are proudly fed Nutrience.

Meet Reny -Your Clever Little Sidekick โค๏ธ

Reny is a 1-year-old neutered male dwarf rabbit with a gentle heart and a curious spark. He loves spending time with people and, once he feels comfy, he turns into a social, affectionate little sweetheart. He may be shy at first, but with patience and soft encouragement, his true charm quickly shines through.
Heโ€™s also been a perfect gentleman with other rabbits, calm, polite, and never pushy, even when they hop up to his x-pen. With slow, thoughtful introductions, he may enjoy having a bunny buddy.

Donโ€™t let his tiny size fool you, this boy has an adventurous streak! Reny is a clever escape artist who can jump surprisingly high, so heโ€™ll need a roomy, secure x-pen where he can explore without getting into mischief.
Reny is looking for a family who understands the special care rabbits need. Heโ€™ll thrive with someone committed to providing a proper diet (lots of hay!), safe enrichment, gentle handling, and regular vet care. Like all bunnies, he needs daily interaction, plenty of space to hop and play, and a calm environment where he can feel safe and loved.

If youโ€™re ready for a friendly, intelligent rabbit who will brighten your days with his sweetness and silly antics, and youโ€™re prepared for the rewarding responsibility of rabbit care, Reny might just be the perfect match. โค๏ธ

All rabbit adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, RHDV1 and RHDV2 vaccine, and a gift card from Ren's Pets!

Meet Zoomarella - A Calm, Independent Ladyโค๏ธ

Zoomarella is a 2ยฝ-year-old spayed female who appreciates a peaceful environment and likes to take her time getting comfortable. She may be shy when meeting new people and isnโ€™t much of a cuddler, but once she feels safe, sheโ€™s content to relax nearby and share her quiet presence.

She would thrive in a calm, child-free home where she can enjoy her independence and settle in at her own pace. Zoomarellaโ€™s ideal family is patient, gentle, and understanding of her need for space, someone who values a serene, low-maintenance companion.

If youโ€™re looking for a sweet, tranquil companion who brings warmth without demanding too much attention, Zoomarella might be the perfect match. ๐Ÿ’—

๐Ÿ’— A Message from Nancy Santon

When I was volunteering, I fell in love with a cat named Tiffany who was rescued from a horrible hoarding situation and now a mother of 3 one week old kittens. We were asked to foster them and then offered an opportunity to foster to adopt Tiffany. We jumped at the chance to help this little family. Eventually, we did adopt Tiffany and 2 of her kittens โ€“ what can I say, we fell in love with them. Tiffany blossomed even with some health conditions that were overcome with love, patience and the guidance of the Cat Care Attendants. Unfortunately, after 2 years, at the age of 4, Tiffany became ill, and we had to say goodbye to the sweetest and most loving cat that anyone could ever imagine. Tiffany and I had a very special bond, and I miss her a great deal. She taught me so much and we are thankful to have two of her beautiful daughters here with us, so she continues to live in our hearts and through them. I am an animal lover and have had many cats and dogs over the years, but Tiffany was very special. So, to honour Tiffanyโ€™s memory I wish to provide a subsidy of $100 which is one half of the HSHPE adoption fee of $200. This will be provided on an approximate monthly basis, to help a cat that has touched my heart or that may require extra assistance in hopefully getting adopted, as in a similar situation like Tiffanyโ€™s. Qualified cats will be selected based on a pre-screening approval by myself and a senior cat care attendant. Hopefully, this support will help to make a difference, in Tiffanyโ€™s memory.โค๏ธ

Itโ€™s and you know what that means! Weโ€™re celebrating all the wins this week with heartwarming stories of adoption, second chances, and the incredible support animals receive thanks to our community!

๐Ÿ‘ฏ ! Macaroon arrived in our care in late October as a stray who was picked up through animal control and never claimed. Macaroon was in good condition and once spayed she was placed for adoption. Her new mom happened upon her and couldnโ€™t believe her eyes; Macaroon was the replica of her current canine companion. We arranged a meet and greet and the pups hit if off, their new mom now has two best friends for life!

๐Ÿ‹ Animal CHAMPION alert! Many tails are wagging thanks to Phoenix who recently held a lemonade stand for visitors and offered pup cups to their four-legged friends! She visited earlier this week and proudly donated $665 to help support animals of HSHPE, waiting patiently for their forever! Phoenix has supported animals here for a long time and this isnโ€™t her first donation. A young entrepreneur and animal lover, Phoenix, weโ€™re grateful for your support!

๐Ÿฆด Jamieson was dropped off by a member of the public in late October. He was thin, and missing a lot of fur on his back, abdomen, legs & tail. Our team helped him gain weight, he was vaccinated and treated for parasites, and his fur started to grow back. Jamieson was neutered and ready for adoption! A new name, Tuukka, and a new family to match! Congratulations! Thank you for choosing adoption!

๐Ÿ˜ฝ Dom was dropped off as a stray back in May. He was very flighty and untrusting of humans. Dom was missing fur around his eyes, had cuts on his ears, and flinched whenever we touched him. We knew this poor guy had been through a lot and it was time to reset. We, along with our awesome volunteers were committed to showing Dom what it meant to be loved. Time, love and patience paid off! Dom who was once scared of human touch began leaning into us for love and affection. Dom is another lucky cat to benefit from Tiffanyโ€™s Legacy! Read more here: www.humanesocietyhpe.ca/tiffanys-legacy
So far Tiffanyโ€™s Legacy has helped Claggor, Thresh, Socket, Caesar Flickerman & Cinna find their forever!

๐Ÿฐ Batman the Flemish Giant was dropped off by a member of the public in mid October. He was underweight, had infected eyes, his head and ears were covered in an unknown substance. We cleaned him up, gave him comfy blankets and lots of hiding spots until he was ready to show himself. He tolerated our help and visited the vet to have his eyes examined, he was treated with antibiotics and was feeling better in no time! Batman was neutered and has hopped into his new home! Turns out his adoptive mom was the real hero! Thank you for choosing Batman!

๐Ÿฅณ We think the folks at Forestry Financial are just puuurfect! Dave delivered a huge cartload of canned cat food for the many mouths weโ€™re currently feeding. Dave recently lost his companion and donated supplies that he no longer needed, things that go a long way supporting the animals here. Thank you!!

๐Ÿคฉ Bingo! This little guy arrived in late summer, surrendered with his 4 littermates. They were healthy and to keep them healthy we moved these wee ones into a loving foster home with Shayla, a PAW-some member of our team! Once UTD on vaccinations, dewormed and neutered, we arranged a meet and greet with an interested family! Here they are ready to take their boy home! Thank you for giving this sweet kitten a loving home!

๐Ÿ˜ป Clipboard was dropped to us by a member of the public in September. He had some fur loss around his neck and wasnโ€™t feeling great. Clipboard started a course of antibiotics and once he felt better he was booked in for neuter. A very friendly boy heโ€™s off to start a new life with his dad! Congratulations to you both! Happy tails!!

๐Ÿ“š Rescue Readers from Prince Charles Public School spent time sharing stories with the animals currently awaiting adoption. Not only does this program help students gain confidence while reading aloud, but itโ€™s also engaging for the animals, not to mention the cute factor! Moments that make us say awe

Over 50,000 Cats & Dogs Spayed or Neutered To Date

Quinte Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter serving Hastings & Prince Edward Counties. Each year we assist as many as 2200 animals in need. We provide a safe, caring environment for stray, surrendered, neglected or abused animals. We return hundreds of lost animals to their families, adopt out animals who are in need of a new home and provide medical care and other necessities for animals in distress. We spay/neuter to help with pet overpopulation and educate the public about animal welfare.

The average cost of care for the animals we receive far exceeds the adoption fees we take in from each adoption. This is because not enough people will adopt if we charge the full cost of care and we do not have the capacity to keep the animals indefinitely. It is because of this that we are required to fundraise to keep the shelter open to serve and protect all these wonderful animals.

The Quinte Humane Society has a number of fundraising initiatives throughout the year to help support these costs but the animals would greatly benefit from a predictable monthly income. In order to address this we have started a monthly giving program. Please consider making a small monthly donation through this program as it will have a huge impact on the lives of the animals in our care. If you would like to make a difference throughout the year please consider this generous option.
