Do you have a good telephone manner? If so would you be interested in volunteering just 2 hours a month to answer the phones for our weekly TV Bingo program?

You'd be answering calls from potential bingo winners, in a live TV studio setting in Belleville, and taking down their details.

It's one Tuesday night per month from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

You'd be working as part of a small team and full training will be given.

If you think you've got what it takes, or have any questions, please contact Kristi, our volunteers coordinator, by email [email protected] or call Kristi on 613 968 4673.

🥳 Three cheers for the weekend! It's been an eventful week at HSHPE! We’ve met many new volunteers, we welcomed a new Executive Director, today is the last day of our Dog Days summer camp and of course, we’ve wished happy tails to several adopted animals! It’s time to !

🥰 Stewart came to HSHPE for help in early June, he was an impounded stray who was never claimed. Even though Stewart was a big bulky boy he was very timid during his intake. Stewart had inflamed skin and was missing fur on his paws, he wasn’t yet neutered, and sadly, not microchipped. Once his fur grew back, and he felt his very best, Stewart was neutered and then he waited. The wait was worth it because this lovable boy has been adopted into a wonderful home! His new parents are committed to helping him be the very best boy he can be!
💚 We wish you a lifetime of happiness and thank you for choosing a deserving dog like Stew!

🥜 Peanut Butter the bunny was surrender to us back in June. She was in great health and placed for adoption right away. PB didn’t wait long to bounce into the hearts of her new family! She is currently awaiting her spay from the comfort of her new home. Peanut Butter’s adoption will be finalized once she’s had her surgery.
🐰 Thank you for choosing to adopt this sweet little bun!

😍 Lagertha was surrendered to us in July. A very good girl, with a bright future ahead! She was booked for spay, vaccinated, treated for parasites and ready to find her forever family! Here they are! Picture perfect! Wishing you a wonderful life together!

🎀 Milly arrived in our care as a stray earlier this month. She looked well cared for but surprisingly, no one came forward to claim her. She was given core vaccinations and her rabies vaccine, spayed and treated for parasites. Milly has left the building! Congratulations!

😽 You may remember Lamprey, who was adopted back in June. Well, his parents came back to adopt his best friend earlier this week. These cats had a rough start to their lives, living with 40 other cats in the same dwelling, all are doing well and steadily moving on to their new lives. We’re thrilled to share that Aye Aye (now Sailor) has joined Lamprey’s family, they’re now reunited and will spend the rest of their lives together.

🐶 Roscoe arrived as a stray a few weeks ago. He was in good health, and he hit the adoption floor soon after arriving. Roscoe was always a quiet boy, never barked, even if his kennel mates started a song, he’d just sit, wide eyed with a softly wagging tail. We have a feeling Roscoe is going to be the greatest couch potato, late night movie buddy, and we’re so thankful he’s found a family! Congratulations!

🩷 We were grateful to meet Jackie who dropped off a donation of $914.00 from Happy Days Car Club! A big thank you to everyone who offered financial support in Troy Bennett’s honor. May his memory live on in the lives of deserving animals across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

🧡 Pumpkin Spice was a stray who was picked up through animal control in July. He was missing some fur and teeth, had wounds on his legs and was rather thin but within a few weeks he was looking and feeling much better! Pumpkin Spice was treated for parasites, vaccinated and ready to move into the adoption rooms! This is where he met his new family, and here they are, ready to start the next chapter! Happy tails!

🐈 Silverstream was rescued from inadequate living conditions in March. She was given time to decompress from the life she escaped. Once she settled in, she was vaccinated, treated for parasites, spayed and stole the hearts of our volunteers! Silverstream was selected as the next cat to benefit from Tiffany’s Legacy, and she was adopted shortly thereafter! Silverstream has found her way into the heart and home of some longtime volunteers, and we know she’s well loved!
Read more about Tiffany's Legacy here: https://humanesocietyhpe.ca/tiffanys-legacy/

🐾 As the weekend begins, we want to thank our amazing supporters, volunteers, and staff for everything you do to help animals in need.

💛 Enjoy your weekend — and don’t forget to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate if you can. Every little bit helps!

Meet Harry: A Sensitive, Reactive Dog Seeking a Patient, Experienced Home!❤️

Harry is a 1-year-old neutered male Cane Corso x Golden Retriever mix whose striking looks and sturdy frame are matched by a complex, sensitive nature. While initially shut down, Harry is now showing signs of reactivity, especially when faced with new people, animals, or overwhelming situations. This behavior stems from fear and uncertainty—he’s still learning that the world can be a safe place. He will need an adopter who understands how to manage and work with a reactive dog, using positive reinforcement and a calm, structured approach.

Harry’s ideal home is quiet, adult-only, and pet-free, with a secure fenced yard to give him safe space without the stress of leash encounters. He’ll need a patient, consistent person who can go slow, respect his boundaries, and provide the stability he’s been missing. While he isn’t ready for busy environments or lots of social interaction, with time, trust, and the right guidance, Harry has the potential to grow into a loyal and devoted companion. For the right adopter, helping Harry will be a deeply rewarding journey.❤️

For more information on sweet Harry please visit or call the shelter and one of our animal care attendants will be happy to answer any questions you might have and set you up with a meet & greet!

The whole team at Humane Society HPE was pleased to support The Children's Foundation through Domino’s Dough Drive. This is camp week at HSHPE which means 15 children are learning about the responsibility of animal care and compassion. They’ve had a busy week taking care of dogs, cats, bunnies and even a bearded dragon! Interested in camp next summer? Watch our website in the early spring and check out The Children’s Foundation Camps of Hope subsidies that ensure finances aren’t a barrier to participation.

Thank you Domino's Pizza (Belleville) for all that you do to support our community! 🍕 ❤️

Meet Smartfood!🍿❤️
Smartfood is a 3-month-old brown and white tabby who lives life in fast-forward. Sweet? Absolutely. Snuggly? Only for a minute this boy has things to do. He’s got games to play, tunnels to charge through, and siblings to ambush. If you're looking for a laid-back lap cat… keep scrolling. But if you're ready for non-stop entertainment and tiny bursts of chaos, he’s your guy.
Smartfood loves a good play session, whether it’s chasing feather toys or wrestling with his kitten crew. He’ll happily accept some affection just don’t hold him too long. He’ll let you know when he’s got places to be.
Smartfood’s Must-Haves:
Another cat in the home or even better, adopt him with a sibling!
Space to run, jump, and climb
Eating gastro kitten food for a healthy, happy belly
His Ideal Home:
Smartfood would do best in a home with another playful feline to burn energy and learn from. He’s still figuring out the world, and a buddy will help guide the way. A household that respects his independent streak while enjoying his goofy antics is ideal. No dogs for me please!
Why Smartfood?
He’s a crunchy little character with a heart of gold and a whole lot of attitude. He may not be your cuddle bug, but he will be your best source of laughs, zoomies, and chaotic joy.

Meet Skinnypop!🍿❤️
Say hello to Skinnypop a 3-month-old spayed female who proves that good things come in small, sassy packages. This little dynamo is full of energy, curiosity, and just the right amount of cattitude (we call it personality!). She loves to jump, climb, and chase toys with full kitten enthusiasm, bringing life and laughter wherever she goes.
Skinnypop knows what she likes—and what she doesn’t. She has shown very negative reactions to dogs and will bite if pushed past her comfort zone, so she’s looking for a home without dogs or young children. However, she thrives with feline friends and will need another cat in the home to help her burn off energy, learn boundaries, and keep her company.
Home Requirements
No Dogs: Skinnypop has shown very negative reactions to dogs and cannot be placed in a dog home.
No Young Children: Due to her occasional biting and big personality, she is best suited to an adult-only or older child household.
Another Cat Required: She must have another playful, confident cat to help her socialize and burn off her kitten energy.
Why Skinnypop?
Skinnypop is not your average cuddlebug—she’s a firecracker with a bold personality and endless energy. In the right home, she’ll grow into a confident, loving cat while keeping you endlessly entertained with her antics.
Ready to meet Skinnypop?
Submit an adoption application today and prepare to welcome this feisty, fun-loving kitten into your home and heart.
Boomchickapop is currently in a foster home. Please fill out an adoption application to meet her!

Welcome to our new Executive Director, Melanie Cressman.

Hastings Prince Edward – The Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is thrilled to announce the appointment of Melanie Cressman as our new Executive Director, effective August 18, 2025.

Her proven track record in non-profit leadership, includes the role of Director of Donor Relations at United Way HPE and most recently, the Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation.

With a degree in Agriculture from the University of Guelph, Melanie brings over 20 years of experience in the equine industry, where she developed expertise focused on animal care, husbandry and rehabilitation.

Her lifelong passion for animals—both large and small—drives her commitment to supporting the Humane Society’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and re home animals who are lost, abused, or neglected.

"I'm truly excited to join this incredible team, whose care and dedication make such a difference in the lives of animals every day," said Melanie. "The Humane Society’s tagline, Connected by
Compassion, really speaks to me. It reflects the heart of this work—our connection to animals, our community, and to each other as a team. I'm especially passionate about the role animals play in our lives—not just as companions, but as family.

They offer us comfort, connection, and often a sense of healing that is truly powerful. I'm honoured to be part of an organization that helps protect and celebrate that bond, and I look forward to finding new ways to support animals in need and the people who care about them.”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m delighted to welcome Melanie Cressman as the new Executive Director of the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward. Melanie takes over from our Interim Executive Director Chris Barry who stepped in this past January to support HSHPE as we searched for a permanent replacement.

Melanie brings not only strong leadership and experience, but a genuine passion for animal welfare and community engagement. We’re excited for this next chapter and confident that under her guidance, HSHPE will continue to thrive and grow in service to both animals and people across our region.” — Greg Sudds, Board Chair, Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward

Melanie looks forward to connecting with the community, stakeholders, and supporters as she embarks on this new and meaningful journey with the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward. She invites people to stop by the shelter and say hello!

1 YEAR IN OUR CARE! Meet Tetra Today marks one full year since Tetra arrived at our shelter! This spirited girl has come a long way from a feral cat to a curious, playful soul learning to trust the world around her.
Tetra is full of personality and always ready to play. You’ll often catch her tapping at her kennel bars when she’s in the mood for attention! While she still has a bit of that wild spirit, she’s making steady progress toward enjoying the comforts of domestic life.
❤️
About Tetra:
Affection Level: A work in progress she's learning to enjoy affection, but she still needs time and patience.
Energy Level: High—Tetra loves to play, especially with her favorite toys.
Loves: Lick able treats (seriously, they’re her weakness!), interactive play, and the company of trusted humans.
Still Learning: She can be wary of new people and isn’t quite ready for cuddles or being held.❤️

Ideal Home: A quiet, patient environment with someone who understands that trust takes time. Tetra may not be a lap cat yet, but she's well on her way to being a loyal and loving companion.
Best with Older Kids or Adults: Small children may be too much for her, but calm, respectful older kids could be a good fit.
Other Pets: She seems to enjoy the company of other cats and could do well with a slow introduction.

Ready to Meet Tetra?
If you're someone who believes that the best things in life are worth waiting for, Tetra might just be the perfect match. Help her start her next chapter—fill out an adoption application on our website or reach out to learn more.
Let’s find this incredible girl the home she deserves after one whole year of waiting. ❤️

Over 50,000 Cats & Dogs Spayed or Neutered To Date

Quinte Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter serving Hastings & Prince Edward Counties. Each year we assist as many as 2200 animals in need. We provide a safe, caring environment for stray, surrendered, neglected or abused animals. We return hundreds of lost animals to their families, adopt out animals who are in need of a new home and provide medical care and other necessities for animals in distress. We spay/neuter to help with pet overpopulation and educate the public about animal welfare.

The average cost of care for the animals we receive far exceeds the adoption fees we take in from each adoption. This is because not enough people will adopt if we charge the full cost of care and we do not have the capacity to keep the animals indefinitely. It is because of this that we are required to fundraise to keep the shelter open to serve and protect all these wonderful animals.

The Quinte Humane Society has a number of fundraising initiatives throughout the year to help support these costs but the animals would greatly benefit from a predictable monthly income. In order to address this we have started a monthly giving program. Please consider making a small monthly donation through this program as it will have a huge impact on the lives of the animals in our care. If you would like to make a difference throughout the year please consider this generous option.
