Heartworm is a serious, but preventable disease seen in animals.
Our pets can get Heartworm disease through the bite of mosquitoes carrying immature heartworm larvae. The infected mosquito deposits the larvae into the bloodstream, through the bite and migrates to the heart and lungs.
Prevention is Key!
A Heartworm Test is recommended every two years before starting or continuing prevention. If prevention is given without confirming a negative test result, animals can potentially have a sever reaction is adult worms die too quickly.
Puppies under 7 months of age can start prevention without a test, if they have not seen a Heartworm Season. Testing is recommended 6 months later.
