We attended the Rick Wiebe Memorial Barrel Race on Sunday at Rocking W Ranch. We had lots of fun with great weather and great competitors all in support of South Central Cancer Resource. Teri had a great run and put into practice lots of the stuff we’ve been working on this year! Me, well I showed up and had lots of fun too! A big shout out goes to Dusty van der Steen and her whole crew for another amazing event!

Say hello to Halo! Halo is our 4 year old APHA mare. Her registered name is Getsya To The Gospel. She’s our next barrel hopeful but she’s been slow to mature so we’re taking our time with her. We did our first bridge session and she handled it well.

Gotta keep things cool when it gets hot! Noticed on the last few trips that the truck was running hotter than I would like. I pulled the rad and inter cooler out today and washed everything out. We should be back in business now!

We let the horses out of the barn and this is how Fancy decided to celebrate.

We’re getting closer to foaling time for Angel so we dropped her off with our vet where she will foal out. She’s an older maiden mare and we want the best for her. It feels like we waited forever but now that we’re getting close it feels surreal!

It was a hot one today! With temps in the 30’s feeling like 40+ the horses came in for some relief from the heat and flies. We had the fans blowing and still fly sprayed them even though they were in the barn. So far most of the crazy weather has missed us but there’s more coming.

We had the pleasure of attending the Cain Quam barrel racing clinic this year. If you haven’t attended one of his clinics before, we highly recommend you do. Cain is incredibly talented, knowledgeable, and patient.

The skills you learn at his clinics don’t just benefit a barrel horse. They are skills that help both horse and rider become a team. He takes the time to ensure each participant gets the help they need. In addition to drills we had great discussions about bits and anxiety in horses on the barrel pattern. We look forward to attending again next year!

Sigh… the adventure continues. We just got done fixing the mower when he decided to spring a leak! At least we got the lawn mowed once before having to take the engine apart again.

Since we didn’t make it to the barrel race, Chris finished putting our riding mower back together.

Of course our “su-purr-visor” and unhelpful helper was there to make sure Chris did everything right.

We were on our way to our first barrel racing series of the year when the weather took a turn for the worse and we decided to scratch.

There were so many tornado warnings on our way home (our emergency alerts kept going off). It’s quite a long drive for us and we didn’t want to get caught in anything too crazy.
