Summer thunderstorms can be really overwhelming for pets! ⛈️

Loud noise, flashes of lightning and pressure changes can trigger stress behaviors like hiding, shaking, pacing, vocalizing, or staying extra close to you.

There are a few simple ways to help your pet feel more comfortable at home during storm season. Creating a safe, quiet space they can retreat to is a great start. Closing blinds, adding background noise like TV or music, and keeping your routine calm can all help reduce anxiety.

Sprout is looking for a forever home to call his own! This sweet boy began life outdoors with his feral mom and siblings, learning early how to stay safe and hidden. After being rescued, he was unsure at first, but with patience and care he’s learned that people mean comfort, safety, and good things.

Now Sprout is discovering the joys of indoor life. He loves jingle toys, crinkly playthings, soft fuzzy beds, and gentle attention from his foster family. When he feels safe, he rewards you with strong purrs and even tiny nose kisses 🐾 He’s also fully litter trained and settling in beautifully as he grows more confident every day!

As warmer days arrive, it’s important to remember that dogs can overheat quickly. Heatstroke can become serious very fast, but it’s also very preventable with a few simple habits.

Here are some easy ways to help keep your dog safe in the heat:

• Always provide access to fresh, cool water
• Walk during early morning or evening when it’s cooler
• Avoid hot pavement that can burn paws
• Make sure there’s shade and airflow during outdoor time
• Take frequent breaks during exercise or play
• Never leave your dog in a parked vehicle, even for a short time
• Watch for signs of overheating like heavy panting, drooling, weakness, or vomiting

If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet to a cool area and contact your veterinarian immediately.
