Painful dental problems may be hiding just below the surface, where even the most attentive pet owner cannot spot them. Many pet owners are surprised to learn that most dental disease develops below the gumline - hidden from view during a routine exam.

That’s why professional veterinary dental care is so important.

During a comprehensive dental procedure, we:

✔️ Scale and polish teeth to remove plaque and tartar
✔️ Perform a complete oral examination
✔️ Create a customised treatment plan for your pet

Before anaesthesia, we carefully screen every patient with:
• A full physical examination
• Pre-anaesthetic bloodwork

For pets with additional health concerns, we tailor anaesthesia protocols or recommend further diagnostics to ensure the safest possible care.

Bad breath isn’t just unpleasant-it’s often the first sign of dental disease.

Dental (periodontal) disease occurs when the tissues supporting the teeth become inflamed.
It usually starts as gingivitis (red, swollen gums), but if left untreated, it can progress to more severe conditions. However, the good news is that early dental disease is often manageable, and sometimes even reversible, with prompt care. This can help prevent the progression to:

• Tooth root abscesses
• Infections of the jawbone
• Painful, disease-related jaw fractures

Dental disease is one of the most common conditions we see in dogs and cats, and it is progressive and painful if ignored. Regular preventive measures, such as twice to thrice weekly brushing or providing dental treats, can significantly help maintain your pet's oral health. By taking these simple steps, you can help keep your pet comfortable and potentially avoid more serious dental problems in the future.

Take a look at your pet’s mouth today. Bad breath, red gums, or visible tartar are early warning signs of dental disease. If you notice any of these signs, consider scheduling a checkup with us to assess your pet's dental health.

🐶 “The vet says my dog has a heart murmur…”. What does that mean?

A heart murmur is an unusual sound heard when we listen to your dog’s heart. It’s caused by changes in blood flow, and while it can sound scary, it doesn’t always mean heart disease.

Some murmurs are innocent, especially in puppies, and may resolve on their own. Others may be linked to heart or medical conditions that simply need closer evaluation.

At Animal Medical Group, we assess murmurs based on your dog’s age, symptoms, and overall health. If needed, we may recommend diagnostic tests such as chest X-rays, ECGs, or a heart ultrasound.

💙 The good news?
Many dogs with heart murmurs live full, comfortable lives-especially when detected early and properly managed.

If you have concerns about your dog’s heart, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
