🫀 When Their Heart Needs a Helping Hand 🐾
Meet the adorable Bruce Finnegan! Bruce Finnegan was in our care this week to have a cardiac pacemaker procedure with Dr. Richard Woollie from Cardiorespiratory Pet Referrals.

Hearing that your beloved pet has third-degree AV block can be overwhelming. But there is hope—and a way forward.

The most effective treatment is a pacemaker implant, a small device that helps restore the rhythm of their heart and the joy in their life. 💓

Pacemakers don’t just regulate heartbeats—they listen, respond, and protect. They’re designed to maintain a steady rhythm and monitor for other conditions like atrial flutter and fibrillation, which often accompany AV block.

💬 In a healthy heart, the SA node is the natural conductor—sending signals that keep everything in harmony. When that rhythm falters, we step in to help your pet find their beat again.

This week has been a challenging week for some of our feline patients.

Cat donors are a lot rarer than dog donors and are usually only done on an emergency bases.

Yes, there are 2 super star dogs featured, this is because cats can receive canine blood which is called a Xenotransfusion. BUT, they can only receive it once in an emergency when cat blood isn’t readily available.

Thanks to these real life superheroes all 4 patients received blood transfusions and where able to be discharged home from hospital. 🫶

Thank you to our Emergency and Internal Medicine departments for the close monitoring and care that these critical cats received.

Could your pet make a difference to the lives of others?

Find out today if your dog or cat could be a donor.

🐾 Unlocking the Gut’s Secrets: The Amazing World of Faecal Transplants! 🐾
At GVH , we’re constantly amazed by the incredible power of the microbiome – the bustling universe of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes living in your pet’s gut! This tiny ecosystem plays a HUGE role in overall health, digestion, immunity, and even mood! 🤯

Recently, we had the privilege of performing a faecal transplant on a deserving canine patient, and we wanted to share a glimpse into this life-changing therapy!

✨ Meet Our Hero Donor! ✨ Lulu! Every faecal transplant starts with a truly special donor – a healthy, rigorously screened, and utterly adorable dog whose balanced microbiome is ready to share its goodness! We ensure our donors are in peak health, providing the best possible foundation for our patients.

🐶 The Impact on Our Patients’ Lives: 🐶 Faecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) is revolutionising how we treat a range of conditions, bringing hope and healing where traditional methods may fall short. We’ve seen incredible results in dogs suffering from:

💩Chronic Intestinal Issues: Helping to rebalance disrupted guts and alleviate long-term discomfort, diarrhea and gastrointestinal distress.
💩Acute Diarrhea: Aiding in rapid recovery by restoring healthy gut flora.
💩Parvovirus: Supporting critical recovery by boosting gut health during a severe illness.

But the potential doesn’t stop there! Research is rapidly expanding, exploring microbiomes role in managing conditions like kidney disease, neurological disorders, obesity, and more. FMT’s are truly a frontier of veterinary medicine!

Could your pet help save the lives of other pets in need of this precious resource?

Did you know every canine blood donation could save up to 3 lives?

But blood only last for 42 days! 🤯

Feline blood donations are only taken in emergencies, making their donations crucial to the patient in need.

Contact us today if you think your pet could be a donor 🩷

Lost and Found Animals.

Veterinary hospitals like GVH are not designed to house or shelter stray animals, as this can pose health risks to the sick and recovering patients in our care.

If the animal is healthy and uninjured, please notify your local council, pound, or The Lost dogs Home.
These organisations are best equipped to care for, reunite, or rehome stray animals.

If the stray is injured or unwell, whether it’s a domestic pet or native wildlife, we can provide emergency first aid and support.

Thank you for looking out for the welfare of animals in our community.

Your care makes a real difference!
